Our kids DO NOT have normal alcohol/addiction related genetics, nor have they been modelled 'normal' drinking behaviour. That a 1-2 punch for addictive behaviour potential.

So we may as well get real about it toot sweet.

There is no way my kid is going to go through what I did if I've got anything to do with it. And I will.
Love you Bridge. I revise my thoughts on over reacting. Sticking to a hard line.

:H You do deserve it you know? Love I mean.

Back to allaboutme.com....One thing I'm noticing re the isolating and drinking is that its now deemed socially acceptable as in their eyes, they're not isolating because they have social media. So your on Facebook reporting to your drinking buddies or your phone texting someone how pissed you feel....what is this new game? the rules seem to have shifted but the end result is still the same...

The Lamp is up for giving out an old-fashioned kick up the arse...

Yeah, i can understand about the social media, and being isolated physically but still connected. But what is the quality of the connection? That is a worry Happs, and a global trend for all ages i see.

                Hi Undies!

                Happy New Year.

Home alone - but only because Nicholas has been bundled off to ED with a split open chin from jumping backwards into the pool. His parents turned up here at 3.40am. Their car got locked in the secure parking. Sooo, poolside injury did NOT happen on my watch.

Very nice night enjoyed in wonderful company. In bed around 1am.

I have committed to NOT participating in setting NY resolution. I'm going to concentrate on doing what I already do and enjoy better! Oh, I might look at getting laid at least one this year!!! Definitely not properly though - the more not proper the better ......

Reggie - Oscar spent quite some time talking with Olive - hope it helped xxxx

I wish you all comfort, happiness and peaceful times.
It is not what we do, but how much love we put into the doing.

Didn't have him mowing the lawn as well? :H

                  Off to do some weeding.
                  See you all soon.

I guess my main NYR is to lose some kilos and get myself fit.
And be more patient with myself and others.

                    G'day Reggie,
What a lovely resolution... respect for all sentient beings .
Gee your TS is a little beauty.
I'm going to have to find time this year to drive down with mine and we have a sail together.

                    Missy,
I have spent about 3 days weeding. The front doesn't look much better sans weeds.
Am delving into my Grow What Where and my Japanese serene garden books...
                    Will keep you posted.
But the Grevillea Ned Kelly's the previous owner planted are going to have to go.
They are so leggy and look dreadful. They are also rather stressed.
I think some Peaches and Creams and a couple of Moonlights will take their place.
I asked Mr Rags if I could have a truckload of euc. chips for my Christmas pressie.

Honestly I rarely know what you folks are saying but a) you are always having so much fun and b) that's the best thread name I've ever heard - so I had to stop by and wish the Underoos a Happy New Year. It is still 2013 here on the US west coast - I'll be celebrating with my sober self in 20 minutes.

                      Keep making us laugh!

                        That's funny Reg!!

I've been quite busy today, so haven't had a proper read, but Happy - I'm sort of on your side on the hard line thing. My drinking patterns when I got older were exactly the ones that were put in place when I started drinking as a teenager. Plus, there is so much medical evidence now about the fact that people's brains keep developing until the age of 25, and that harmful alcohol use before then can cause life-long damage to the brain. It might not incapacitate him, but it might mean that he isn't able to reach his full potential.

Lots of younger people are getting switched into the "Hello Sunday Morning" message, which I think is a fantastic thing as it offers a very positive message about how being AF is a lifestyle choice which allows you to be the best person that you can be. Is that something that he might respond to??

I feel very positive about 2014 and have a general desire to re-discover myself. I had the best ever New Years Eve gift when I went to pick up Mr B's boy in Wellington yesterday - some of you may recall that Mr B's ex has been extremely difficult to deal with in the past. And the general pattern for changeovers has always been that it has taken place in a "no mans land" - when he was little it meant that she had someone else escort him in between her and us, and as he has got older it has been that there has been an agreed drop off point, and she would always drop him off 5 minutes early. Anyway, I got a text from Boy yesterday to say that his Mum wanted to talk to me when I picked him up. I immediately got really nervous about what this might be all about - and even said a few Hail Mary's on the way to the meeting point. :H:H Anyway, she waltzed in, as nice as pie, and said that boy had said some things to her that made her realize how much I cared for him and looked out for him, and that she just wanted to say thank you to me for doing that. You could have bowled me over with a feather!! We had a very pleasant conversation and at the end of it gave each over a hug.

I have to say that this was the last thing I expected to happen, but it is the best thing that could have. Boy told me a bit later that she is in a new relationship and that he has noticed how much happier she is over the last 3 months. Anyway, it just feels like a huge gulf that has existed for the last 8 years has very unexpectedly been crossed. Boy also said that he wanted to cry when he saw me and his mum give each other a hug, and I know just how much this means for him.

Anyway, we are all about to watch a movie cuddled up on the couch together, and I'm going back to work in the morning :-( But I just feel like 2014 is off to a fabulous start!!

                                Rock and Roll!
What a great start to the year!

Reggie, that sounds like the most magical NYE. I would just love to do something like that. What a shame Olive can't come any more. But how does she go to the toilet?:H Sorry, always thinking practicalities. And I love your N-res.

Missy you deserve that victory so much. Years and years of stress and diplomacy. It's about time she showed some appreciation. I call that a brilliant start to the year. Did I read correctly? Did you have to do a flight to Wellington especially?

Rags, I've noticed the Ned Kellys looking great up to a point then getting diseases and leggy etc too. You could try to knock it back a bit, but they don't like it the grevilleas do they? I'm going to give the 'Sylvia' cultivar a crack this year. Very pretty. Hope it will stand up to this shitty heat.

Nicey, I hope Nicholas is OK. Freaks me out when the kids hurt themselves. I should take a leaf out of your book and just focus on cleaning up last year's resos first

                                Hellooooo PAVATI:welcome:

Mr G your avatar is turning my crank:H
