ARMY THREAD NEW YEAR'S DAY 2014

Was going to post a link to hangover cures for Mrs P, Satzette and the Molly males, but hell, if the Army didn't know any they wouldn't be here, would they? Rather them than me.

And hallo Pink and JC and whoever else may have slipped in.

Unfortunately it's always easier to blame somebody else/some outside factor for our behaviour than to simply face up to what we've done.

Just up from nana nap, had leftovers from last night's big catered event chez Dreamy, feel another nana nap coming on. Are they like fruit and veg - the more the better? Hope so.

ARMY THREAD NEW YEAR'S DAY 2014

Happy New Years Day to all :hallo:

Had me first and only lie-in since been off :yay: Was great laying in the cosy bed listening to the rain pelt the windows. Might not be so great when have to brave the roads later to get back to the big smoke.
Cooking up a nice brunch of beef n black pepper sausages and eggs for myself and Dad and think me Aunt gonna call too

          Satz- just a point!
For years I blamed my own drinking on the fact that had so many relations (particularly female) with drink problems. Kinda had the attitude 'well, I've no hope, its in me blood, so may as well continue on'. My brother one night kindly pointed out to me that my attitude was bullshit. He listed all the cousins etc.. who don't have drink issues. Made me wake-up to fact, even if it was in my genes it's my responsibility to DO something about it meself, and not just sit passively letting myself get worse.

Think what am trying to say is, if yer daughter feels she could have an 'issue' it doesn't really matter how or why she does, as an adult it is up to her to tackle it, with yer support of course:l

ARMY THREAD NEW YEAR'S DAY 2014

              Hello Sweety,

Just having a contemplate....do you know although we've got alkies in the family (both parents) I've don't think I've ever blamed anyone...........not the media, not my parentage, not drinks adverts any thing. It's my problem

I have however used as an excuse to get rat faced:

My family, the media, the drinks adverts, the bus for being late, here's a good 'un not breast feeding me kids, the bus being late, my counsellor not turning up (he was in hospital), the dog, the rabbit for dying when it was raining...................shall I go on.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

I hate to say this but one of my favourite adverts at the moment is the one for apple vodka. The music's great and it's very clever and a bit of the wall...........but I'm not dashing out to friggintesco.............#1.............I don't drink................#2 I don't like apple flavoured things......well anything apart from apples.

                  Naps are WONDERFUL things!!

Well NOW --- just had a very very interesting convo. with Joe bout exactly this issue - his father was an alcoholic -- and he pretty much says exactly what you and your brother said -- he says in 60 yrs he has never once looked at his father and thought 'what hope have I' or 'it's my dads fault if I drink too much' --- he would refuse to play the blame game even if he wanted to --- and he refuses to be a victim -- every single thing we DO is our own responsibility -- it's like blaming heredity for having big feet or being bad at maths --- WHAT'S THE POINT --- our lives are OUR lives -- it's a dangerous road she's going --- hopefully she HAS no issue with alcohol --- but if she has or develops one --- how handy is that to be a victim and blame someone else -- pure rubbish - and Sweety - you put it perfectly - even read your post out to Joe and he just nodded in total agreement!
Maybe blame is the wrong word- for years I kinda 'explained' my habit away by using the hereditary excuse- gave me the excuse to continue...ye know?
I have no doubt it is in my genes just as is the red head!! but for some reason I look at it in a different light. Like had to eventually accept the fact my hair was orange, had to also come to accept fact that I cannot drink like all me normie friends and that's ok, innit?!

On a side note, ironically, just as I'm coming round to accepting and even liking my hair colour it's decided to change- finding more n more white wans!:upset:

I'm gone!

Fabulous posts today although I am exhausted reading back:goodjob:

The blame game is one I recognise but the truth for me was that it was a great excuse. I could sometimes start an argument so I could say I needed a drink to calm myself down.

Back from a very wet run, it ended up not being a race for me as a few of us just stuck together and chatted as we ran in the wind, hail and rain. What a great laugh we had:H

Just had a gorgeous bath and now for some food:h
