    Sober January!

Awesome Skull! So glad you are making the effort to care physically for yourself. It's a reward to feel fit and healthy. And if you have kids it will help you keep up with them. What is going the progress that is going slower than you want?

I officially weighed in at 145 lbs this am. It's about 10-15 pounds over where I like to be. Usually when I stop drinking I lose weight relatively fast. That will be some motivation to stay the course.

Day 6 for me. Was feeling a little sluggish this morning as I didn't sleep very good. I have been staying up late and getting up late and am trying to adjust my clock some so I can get to bed earlier and get up earlier.

I had a green juice that I made this am.. Cucumber, carrots, kale, chard, lemon, ginger, green apple. It was delightful.

Wishing everyone a warm and wonderful day!:h

      Sober January!

That juice sounds great yogagurl! I am also focused on an overall lifestyle change, an AF focus and hopefull that includes more energy for working out, and getting stronger and more fit! There is a weight loss support thread that people should check out if interested.

Skullbabyland, I know exactly where your thought process is , I began my AF path when I was 39 (lasted for 5 1/2 months before I slipped and fell), I am 40 now and more determined than ever to get back on the AF path for all the reasons that you and gardener mentioned above!

No Sugar thanks for all your support !

      This AF January is ours!

OK - I am TRYING to embrace the lifestyle change, but I gave in to the temptation of the leftover holiday chocolate tonight. Sigh.

I'll risk sounding like a broken record to say - exercise is key for my sobriety. I am so much more tense and anxious on the days I don't exercise. If I can control my eating... I gave myself a lot of leeway in the eating department since I quit. I got a lot of exercise over the holiday, and even though I did eat a lot, I ended up losing 2 pounds (not much, but considering I usually gain a few, not bad). So - quitting alcohol has other benefits, too!

OK - I'll try to get the chocolate out of the house, but at least alcohol isn't calling my name. Happy Jan. 6.

Pavati- exercise totally helps me too. It takes the edge off anxiety.

            Halo- love your positive vibe!

              Sober January!

So much positivity and momentum on this thread. I'm loving that it's so active! Great job everyone on sobriety and exercise, protecting the quit, all that good stuff

A couple things for those who may be interested-- There's a fun "roll call" daily count thread over in Newbie's Nest, for both Newbies and non-newbies alike, that a bunch of us post our daily count on. Even if you don't like the idea of daily counting, I'd encourage anyone to try it just for a week or whatever- it can be really encouraging to watch the days rack up- slow progress suddenly starts to feel like momentum and it's exciting. Plus, the rollcall list is pretty big right now, which is also really exciting. Lots of encouragement over there, too. To post days, just copy the list and paste, while adding your own day count. It's here, if anyone's interested. https://www.mywayout.org/community/f1...692-68536.html

Also, regarding sugar- keep in mind that there's a correllation between sugar and alcohol. Alcohol is metabolized as sugar, and they work on similar (same?) pathways in the brain. Cravings for one can impact cravings for the other. I know many people don't want/care about reducing sugar, so I'm not being pushy, but just something to consider reading up on. There's sugar threads on the board, too, with more info (yes, including a rollcall thread.) I think they're in the nutrition or fitness sections. Read up on the subject if you're interested...

@BK- wow that juice you described literally made my mouth water. I think I'll make one today. I call my veggie/fruit mixture my Hulk Juice

As for slow progress in other areas- I'll write about them today in my progress thread if you wanna pop in. Thanks!

In on this. Nailed it last year, and Feb too.

This year I need March to be cracked to hit the elusive 90 day mark.

                  Keep it up guys!

                        Sober January!

                        Hi all,
Back from holiday and now among the internet connected. Did four loads of laundry, grocery shopped, walked the dog in bitter cold weather, visited with friends and now almost ready to start work (from my apt for the next few days). Don't have to get on a plane until the weekend. Glad to see that folks are doing well.

The five feels great yogagurl! What will be even better is the whole month of January AF. Am leaving shortly on vacation for a week , but am very determined to remain AF, am developing a plan so as not to fall. AM feeling very determined this time around, must be this thread's great energy, so am not even that concerned. Maybe I'll bring some hulk juice with me!

Keep up the great work everyone! Nice to have you back free!

                            Sober January!

Welcome back, Free! I hope your vacation was good.

One whole week, Yogagurl - congratulations.

Halo - I just spent a two week vacation sober. It was wonderful. Amazing sleep - reading books at night that I actually remembered in the morning, no hangovers keeping me from doing fun stuff. Of course, I didn't go away. Making a solid plan is a great idea. And EAT.

Skull - I want some Hulk Juice, too.

Londoner - great to see you here - you have a week today, too, right? Good stuff, as G would say.

Sounding strong everyone. I'll be in for Feb and Mar, too, but don't forget - one day at a time. We just have to stay sober for today...

                              Sober January!

Hi all, glad to be home and warm in our little apartment. Now, if I could only get excited about work. Maybe after a good workout?

Halo, I've been thinking about the 311 gang and how well you and Halfway did. Glad to see you back on MWO.

                              Warmest,

                                Sober January!

Since people seem into the Hulk Juice (lol), my own version of it is:

Kale (the lacinto or "dinosaur" variety, boiled first because too much raw can lead to kidney stones- only in giant quantities)
Spinach (boiled first, for same reason above)
                                Carrots
                                Ginger
                                Celery
                                Cucumber
                                Broccoli or Green Beans (occasional)
                                Strawberries
                                Blackberries

The berries do a great job of neutralizing the funky odor/taste of the stronger veggies, plus they're superstar foods for reducing inflammation.

                                Gamma Radiation- optional
