    Alcohol free lager.

Hi, have just started not drinking (2nd of Jan was my last binge) and have been to the pub a few times and just drank coke.

Last night after my badminton club I went to the pub with a few of the guys. I used to have a small beer at this time every Monday but I decided to have a coke then a bottle of non alcoholic lager. I wouldn't have noticed that the lager wasn't alcoholic until after I had finished it when naturally I realised It had no effect on my brain.

What I want to know is, Is drinking non alcoholic lager a form of cheating i.e. keeps your brain craving the real thing because it tastes similar.

Maybe I'm just being paranoid. Sorry if so :-)

    Hi Scots,
This is just my little opinion so feel free to take it or leave it I view non-alcoholic beverages the way I view electronic cigarettes...I feel like I am "pretending" to drink or smoke. It's the habit and ritual that I am trying to break, so by pretending I feel like I am dragging it out. But please be aware, I have used BOTH in the past...but I felt like I wasn't doing myself any favors. Basically I say do whatever works for YOU!

I personally choose not to drink AF drinks. I feel like I will continue to crave. Just my preference.

This is going to be a Ford/Chevy opinion, in the end the only thing that matters is what keeps YOU from drinking.

I swear by the Non Alky drinks.....at times even now I can get some pretty strong cravings that for whatever reason, Im just not in the mood to fight. So I grab a sixxer of Amber O'Douls and partake.

To be honest, I usually cant even finish off six in one night, but it really helps me keep the wolf away sometimes.

Good luck with whatever you choose, I guess if its cheating, I havent been AF for 2 years now..............:H

It's not cheating silly Nelzie!!! :H It's simply another TOOL that we have at our disposal. Some use AA, some use Antabuse, some use non-alky drinks. Do what works for YOU!

Im not saying it is cheating. I just know it will lead to a real drink for me. I agree, do what works for you.

I drink those non-alky beers every time I'm not drinking. Never seem to want more than 1 or 2 at the most. I do sometimes feel like I'm being cheated by the price of those damn things though.

                thank you.

Not worried about the price of them really as any price is worth paying if it keeps one off the drink.

I was only able to take 1 or 2 of them as well.

There is a slight difference between the E cig and the non AF beer because the E cig still contains nicotine - the AF is no different to other soft drinks or water.

The comparison would be between a nicotine free E cig and a AF beer. It is possible to get Nicotine free E cigs so I'm told. I have never smoked.

                thanks for your views

yea i was thinking that but I seem to be only able to drink 1 or 2 of them. Compared with the 8 or 9 of them i would drink when they had alcohol in them. Also am not getting the alcohol calories in any of these drinks.

I used the nicotine free eCigs, but I still felt like I was just teasing myself and pretending to smoke. I've had to find other things to do at my normal smoking times. Sometimes I still just go outside and sit there...partly because it's the only way my dog will use the toilet outside. Apparently he needs an audience. LOL

I did use the NA beers when I first quit drinking, but they were very hard on my stomach, and like you I could only have 1 or 2 at the most!

Tried them before on many previous attempts and they always kept me attached to the notion of drinking.

Stay away from the sheepish trap of drinking full stop.

Stone cold sober is cool , only sheep poison themselves with alcoHELL .

N/a beer for me still kept me trapped in the mindset of a drinker.

But it *may* work for some.

Yeah, thats weird.....I used to drink up to 10 beers a night, but I cant do that with the NA's either. I guess you can actually feel the bloated feeling when you arent wasted.........:H

I drink NA beer from time to time. Its upto you. If you can drink it and not crave the real stuff then it should be ok. If it does then stay away. I don't consider it cheating.

For me it helps when I want a beer, I can have a NA beer instead. But not everyone can handle na beer or na wine/na campaign so its up to the person.
I quit drinking on March 8, 2020. Taking it One Day At A Time and no more taking my quit for granted.

Also doing it for me. I got to stay sober for me.

Just consecrate on today and do what you can to remain sober for today and worry about staying sober tomorrow, tomorrow.
