    Army thread Sunday 19 January

:wavin: morni g Whizzy, JC and Mario

Mrs. T not pleased with me. I ended up just getting a refund for the shirt :H

We had toasties AND potato salad with our braai last night, Dreamy. No reason not to double up on starches with a braai. It also makes for plenty of leftovers . We make ours with bread rolls, though. And I fry the onions with garlic and herbs first. And put on some Mrs. Balls chutney.

Sorry to hear you're not feeling so bright, Marioman.

:waving: JC and Mario and hallo again Tips

Yip JC, a day not spent down in the salt mines count as a day off - unless you fill it up with houseworkey stuff - not recommended, though.

Hope you're better soon, Mario :l

Too much starch for me, but thanks for the fried onion herbs tip, Tips. Doing the salad thing, so will keep in mind for next time. And Mrs B's must be her peach chutney, with a really strong Cheddar. Droolworthy.

Back to the shade of the pear tree and my book. Lazy day de luxe here chez Dreamy.
14 October 2013 was the first day of the best days of my life!

We actually call it a kalahari...

Take bread, tomato, onion and cheese, make a sandwich, spread lightly with butter or margarine (optional), put on a braai grid, close grid, braai until crispy and brown on a very low fire. You usually put it on last, because then the coals aren't as hot.

There is a particular order in which things have to go on a braai

I thought the Irish ones would feature potatoes as well

Oh so it's more or less a toastie like we do in a toastie machine.

We have to have machines for toasties as we only get our braai's out twice a year................once to scrape the rust of and the second for the rainiest day & coldest of the Summer and invite all your mates over and everything tastes of rust remover.

A toastie is the best thing since sliced bread...

You can all sorts of things, like apricot jam, to it, or go really gourmet, but Mr T's recipe is the standard - and best - one.

Tips it do you call it a Kalahari because it's dry and crunchy?

Considering going back to shops to get toastie ingredients...

Lol at dry and crunchy. That would be a Kalahari gone wrong. Crunchy is right, but never dry

A friend of ours decided on Kalahari to distinguish it from the sliced bread variety. We sommer use hamburger rolls.

I can actually picture it. You probably use charcoal and not real wood as well.
