One Step at a Time – February 2014

    Hi All,

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Dottie, dealing with taxes and colon examinations aren't very far apart. The IRS likes to pry where it might not be welcome, hope everything works out for the best on both counts.
2023 - focus, getting it done, and living the way it should be and being the person I need to be.

Actually they are very clever and it is fascinating to watch them mull over the problem and sort it out. The cats also find it very entertaining.
Bastet, I have resorted to the "Droll Yankees" feeders. I have the "tipper", which supports weight of a bird up to a mourning dove, but "tips" off squirrels. It's a real laugh to watch the uninitiated squirrels attempt it! :H I agree with you, cats find the whole thing wildly entertaining!

Back in the early nineties, I saw a fascinating wildlife show from the U.K. entitled "Daylight Robbery" one and two. In it, the film crew set up incredibly challenging obstacle courses for grey squirrels (who'd been introduced to the U.K.) and filmed the critters cracking the code, so to speak.

I believe one lady referred to them as "Tree rats", LOL!

Make sure you watch the video for the "flipper"! :H The feeders are pricey, but worth it.

Thanks fennel! That's pretty funny with the squirrels flying off. And that's just what they do jump at it from another branch or try to climb down. I will be sure to show my husband this, he's the one who fills the bird feeders.
Lizann it sounds like you are totally caught up in wedding frenzy. Take a breath, it's good you aren't thinking about al but give yourself a break too.
Pauly hummingbirds are one of my favorite. I always feel like it is good luck to see them because they are rare.
Mama I am so glad the days of helping my kids with homework is finished. I don't know why but that was always one of my least favorite things to do.
Anyway at work but hopefully home soon and to bed. Take care all.

Awww...hummingbirds and squirrels. Given that about 90% of our wildlife at any given time is probably trying to kill us, that sounds very cute!

Lizann try to stay calm. Its natural for mother's to take most of the stress, but remember to let everyone else do their share of the work too.

Mama - I'm very impressed about the Shakespeare. Is there anything you can't do? I didn't mind the homework too much Bastet - the one thing I hated with a passion was the driving lessons!! Or anything connected with helping them obtain a car for that matter.

Good Morning Loves. Squirrels, hummingbirds and kitties...NICE!!
Liz - sorry I didn't mention you. Hang in there friend. Take some time for yourself.
"We" (ahem....me....) were deciding if Shakespeare was a nom de plume for someone else. it's actually quite fascinating when you research it. I guess it has been quite the controversy for over 400 years. I actually enjoyed using my brain for something other than the mind-numbing stuff I do at work. And, I must admit, I got MAJOR cool points with Clay. He was amazed that Mom could read and write!!
Well....Bri is 30 minutes late and called to day she was on her way. I actually feel sorry for her.
At 3:00 the family will inter(sp?) Pop's ashes. It's cold and pouring rain, so it won't be fun. But Nana is in a fizz to have it done, so that's what we are doing.
Off to work and listen to Bri dry heave.....:H:H (sorry...that was mean):H:H
I love my family more than alcohol.:h

Mama which one? I used to love Shakespeare when I was in HS back in the day. I miss doing homework with the kids. I'm trying to savor every minute with my three little ones as EB will be moving out in just weeks now. I'm not sure how I'm gonna be when she's married. Sorry for my rant but I'm a little scared. My mommy role is changing.

Good lick with the job K9, got my fingers crossed for you. Had to iron my sons dress pants the other night! I just hate it. CJ ironed her suit jacket before her first interview and got a second one! Iron away, it might be good luck! Did Sierra get the job at Panda Express

Alls, you had me laughing with that comment about colons and taxes! I couldn't agree more.

Kradle, can't wait to hear about your weekend.

I'm off today. Sadly I have to get a cavity filled and I'm dreading it. I'm such a baby! Now I need to get my butt on the treadmill for a run. I have a beautiful blue dress to fit into soon. I'll check in later if I survive the dentist visit. Thanks for all the kind words my friends, it really means a lot. Love you all!

Lizann, I find that my time on the dread-mill goes quickly if I have a book to read while I'm up there. I'm not running, though...not sure how that would work out!

Dottie, Mrs. Fen and I plan to move out of this big house and into something smaller within the next few years...something with no stairs! It really is something you don't need to consider when you're young. Now that my knees are beginning to stage a rebellion, I'm very aware of the stairs.

Glass, I could be wrong, but in your case (OZ) the wildlife IS trying to kill you most of the time, isn't it? Could be I've seen too many "Australia Zoo" episodes! :H

I am so pleased to report that birdage is visiting the feeder this bitterly cold (-20 wind chill) day. So far, sparrows and chickadees. No skwerls, yet. I always put plenty of seeds on the ground for them.

Pauly, I didn't know you were a "hair hacker"! That's so cool. I'm curious, what are some of the bad habits stylists get? I wish I had some hair talent- I can't ever make my hair look the way my stylist does.

Lizz..since you asked...there are several people attributed with being Shakespeare, but we chose Sir Francis Bacon. I'll bore you with more details if you like.
You have THREE Little ones, plus EB?? WOW...maybe her absence won't be as tough since you will still be SO busy....
Ya'll are making me feel guilty...I may ask Nana for the treadmill in her back bedroom.

YAY for the birdies Fen. I was watching a female cardinal last night. We have a lot of them in put back yard.
The burial of the ashes has been put off till a sunnier day...it's pouring here.
My hair is WAY too long and shaggy. I am saving up to chop it to my shoulders and put some blonder streaks in it....
                              back to work and Gag-o-drama......
