One Step at a Time - March 2014

    Hiya Fenny!

To my shame, I stole some money from my mother's wallet when I was a kid... I think I was 7... and I used it to buy candy with. The experience of shame from my family knowing I did it and the fallout thereafter has stayed with me till this day. So, yep, I believe in a short sharp shock too. Certainly got my attention...

Zen, I had nightmares last night, I was so nervous! There is a phone system where you sign in to an 800 number to "clock in" to your client's house...from their land line. I kept dreaming that I forgot to do that, lol! You must "clock out" from the same number after your allotted number of hours at the client's home.

It's been a while since I've done patient care, and my last gig was dialysis, not home care.

Once I got to my lady's apartment, she put my mind at ease. She's cognitively sharp, so was able to "train" me the way she likes things. :H We chatted, I went out and got groceries for her, made her bed, cleaned her house a bit, helped her to bathe, made her lunch...I really like her. She is looking forward to my next visit on Wednesday, so I told her to make a list of things she would like me to do.

After, I went to my mum's house. I don't want her to think that I am dumping her for paying customers. Seniors are a demographic I am comfy with. I know that not everyone is going to be "nice", as dementia and other things can make people mean and cranky...but, I won't take it personally.

Anyway, I feel it's rather an honor to assist peeps in these last stages. I have committed myself to occasional "overnights" if needed, and palliative care. I wasn't posting on here at the time, but I helped Mrs. Fen's father when he was passing away from prostate cancer a year and a half ago.

Aww, Zenny...I stole an Oscar Mayer Wiener whistle from a friend's house and got royally busted when I was six. :H I think it's good that parents address things and make kids honest.

I have to say, though...to this day, I am obsessed with the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, and Nora can attest to this fact, based on the number of pics I have texted her! :H

Awww hell Fenny... I'm reading your post and imagining it was my mam. My one is as sharp as a tack, but her body has broken down on her.

Sorry about the nightmares sweetie. That'll ease up once you get back into this line of work methinks. It's quite a lot of responsibility taking care of someone like that Fen... but, darn, how rewarding.

Just like your mam, this lady is sharp as a tack...but body is failing. Congestive heart failure, diabetes, etc. I love her already, though....and yeah, I felt really good. That's a huge component for me. I need to feel like I'm helping. My supervisor said I got the best scores ever, where assisting is the need.:h

You have to be so strong for that, don't you? To give love like that and be prepared for them to die and leave you. Hats off to you my girl. That is a BIG undertaking and not many could handle it. :l
