      Re: On your way!

Hey Lj Hang in there! You're doing great. I do know how ya feel... They say your skin is one of your bodies largest cleasing organs, that's why we sweat so much when we de-tox. So if you're up for it, a nice warm bath, might make ya sweat a bunch, but it'll make ya feel better too. Don't make it too hot though... And scrub gently wich a scrubbie or a loofa if ya have one... Gently... don't wear your skin off !!
I know it's hard to be patient ,... but be kind to yourself ! It'll get better!:h :P :d ,....Judie

        hey judie.

thats something else i never knew. i am sweating so much, ithought it may be all the water i have been drinking. starting to feel it now. i know that i could feel better after a walk to the off license for some beers but i think i will regret it so much afterwards. needto keep myself occupied so i'm thinking i may go for a shower and then clean the bathroom to keepm busy. trying not to think about that off license! x.

          LJ;

I've been there..When I started with MWO 12/05 after a few AA meetings, I thought the shakes and crying would never stop..The depression and the constant feeling of a WAR going on inside of me..I cried and asked everybody that was supporting me to just tell me what to do. But they couldn't, but after a few weeks it stopped I felt better and just kept coming here and reading and posting and praying...I am thankful for my youngest sister and a very close friend talked to me everyday as many times as I needed to call them and they just kept talking to me and encouraging me to stop drinking and by January it had stopped and I felt better and since that time life has gotten better for me overall. I still have bad days but not because of ALCOHOL! Just like today is a bad day, I think the whole world is CRAZY. But I know in my heart this to SHALL PASS..

          You are not alone:h

I know if you can hang in there, you will be feeling better soon, and meanwhile, we'll all just keep posting round the clock to help keep you distracted from what you are going through. I'll check in later, though I am hoping that you are asleep by now, for your sake. I'll be checking in later again, though!

Re: A BIG BIG WAY TO GO!!

                          Thanks so much!

Its 9.30 am here now (gmt), i've just woke up and technically i'm into my third day of abs. Ha! Yes. Yes! I feel pretty proud to be honest. Thanks for all your posts.

Had a bit of a dodgy nights sleep but i actually woke up with a reasonably clear head. The big test was about a minute after waking up, my brother rang me and i could actually deal with it! normally i would have ignored it and let it ring but i answered it and we had a chat and i wasn't stuttering and coming out with a load of rubbish! Things are changing for the better already. I still feel a little shaky (actually very shaky) but the pains in my stomach have gone and my muscles aren't aching as much.Bring on the water!

It can only get better eh!

                          all the best. lj.x8)

I've been watching your posts. You can do this. A few days of feeling like crap is the price to pay for a better "rest of life". Hang on in there, old mate!

                            You can do it.

                            All good thoughts to you,

Re: A BIG BIG WAY TO GO!!

LJ, Great Job! At 3 days, your body is beginning to clear and your blood is almost clean. Here are some supps that you can use to help you with the sleep and tremors. You can use any or all. The GLA, Clacium, Magnesium, B-Complex will help with shakiness.

Calcium, Magnesium, Vitamin C, B6, GABA, Niacinimide, inositol, 5-htp and melantonin work to help you sleep and improve the quality of your sleep.

                              Insomnia

Melatonin -- The discovery of melatonin's role in our bodies has given us the absolute ability to regulate our sleep cycle. The right dose will usual depend on your age:

                              Age Dose

                              40 to 45 .5 to 1 mg
                              45 to 55 1 to 2 mg
                              55 to 65 2 to 3 mg
                              65 to 75 3 to 5 mg

Plan to take melatonin one half hour before you want to sleep, and during that last thirty minutes, be sure you wind down your pace and activities.

5-HTP which converts to Tryptophan--In the brain, tryptophan is converted to the neurotransmitter serotonin, which causes us to fall asleep. Depletion of tryptophan as a result of heavy drinking explains why alcoholics suffer from insomnia.

The amino-acid derivative GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid) is also a calming substance. The combination of inositol, GABA, and niacinamide enhances sleep.

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is responsible for our dreams. Everyone dreams; if you have no dream recall, don't assume you have stopped dreaming. Begin taking additional vitamin B6 every morning, and you will soon enjoy vivid technicolor dreams. The quality of your sleep will improve, too.

Vitamin C also promotes restful sleep. A study measuring possible brain and central-nervous-system stimulants and sedatives demonstrated that vitamin C has potent sedative, antianxiety properties.

The magnesium deficiencies so common among chronic alcoholics contribute to insomnia as well as restlessness, changes in heart rhythm, and tremors.

Calcium is essential for controlling the excitability of the nervous system. It has a calming effect that will help you sleep normally.

                              Tremors--

                              Alcohol-Induced Tremors, Shakiness

In a study of abstinent alcoholics, all of the participants continued to suffer from tremors ten weeks after treatment. This common problem can be reversed by combining the amino acid taurine with magnesium, calcium, B-complex vitamins, and omega-6 essential fatty acids.

Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) can also reduce tremors that occur during alcohol withdrawal. This fatty acid is also essential to the prevention and treatment of alcohol-induced central-nervous-system impairment. Calcium and B-complex vitamins also help control this problem. All the B vitamins are essential to nervous-system stability, while calcium and magnesium calm and relax nerve tissue. The depletion of both these minerals by alcohol is responsible for the acute tremors that occur during withdrawal.

wow cv you MUST be a doctor!

I have all the vitamins you mentioned but not sure if i can get hold of melatonin in general health stores. i'm going to do a litle shopping later if i can face it so i will have a look.i am taking a herbal sleep aid and it did seem to help me last night but i did wake a few times during the night in a cold sweat. i think maybe tonight will be better but thats a fair way off yet! STILL supping water! I think you're right about the body beginning to clear as i do feel sort of cleaner.sounds strange no! going to try a BIG meal later so maybe that will help also.

                                thanks for the advice.x
