One Step at a Time - April 2014

Dottie, what did you have for dinner?

I bought a pint of cherry tomatoes, as they always taste good no matter what time of year...chopped them up and added garlic, basil, fresh mozz and olive oil with red wine vinegar...uncooked tomato sauce! I put it over fresh pasta. It's our fave summer meal.

Coyotes were serenading us last night, too...I wish I could stay at my cabin 24/7.

Dottie, I hear you! I am going to construct some cold frames and raised beds at the cabin so I can grow later and start earlier in the season.

We are co-op members, so there is always a pretty decent supply of veggies, but there's nothing like a home grown tomato right off the vine, is there?

Nope and I make really good marinara sauce...I use the first ones and make many batches and freeze them so we have it almost all winter.
I should check out some local co-ops or at least I would think there are some.

                    It sounds lovely Fen.

Zen my cat also had eyes like saucers when I played that coyote sound. I've never seen her so attentive to anything!

I think I will try my hand at canning this year...that is, if I have any success with my garden! Previous years, something has always come up and prevented me from starting a garden at the cabin. We've had it for almost three years, now.

What is your recipe? Do you mind sharing?

I recorded the serenading last night...and played it for my friend's cat today! The reaction was hysterical! :H

fresh tomatoes, fresh basil, garlic, fresh oregano and that is all I can remember off the top of my head..I really don't have a recipe rather I just throw it all in the Vitamix and see what happens...I hav found that taking the seeds out makes it less bitter.

                            Good to know.

I have tons of seedlings going in my art room...spinach, basil, thyme, oregano, kale....can't wait to transplant it all outside.

Nora I have the "one tracker". I sync it to my laptop to track steps etc. It is around $99 most places. I had one of the other similar ones that the dogs chewed up while dh slept and this one is smaller.
