I know there are nightmare stories out there about discrimination against pregnant women...but Mrs. Fen went through hell with an employee five years ago. This woman was so lovely...she was the secretary for Mrs. Fen's business. She got pregnant, but declared to Mrs. Fen that she would return to her job after her maternity leave was finished.
Mrs. Fen took her at her word. Employee took her six week maternity leave, and promptly quit. Mrs. Fen is a "small business" employer. By law, she is not required to cover medical expenses, as she has way less than fifty employees...she does so, because she is a good person. She covered the employee's maternity leave costs and got screwed in the end.
Then we had another couple of short term (a couple of years) employees sue. Ridiculous stuff but the problem is that the insurance company settles which makes our rates go up. Whoops - sorry, didn't mean to go off on a rant.
