One Step at a Time - April 2014

I try to be careful, Zenny...but my land is crawling with ticks. I refer to it as "Tick Hollow", LOL.

Last year, I was bitten by a tick and developed the "bull's eye" rash...had to go on three weeks of antibiotics. I'm not wild about slathering DEET on, but I will do it.

Really mama, Bri is going? Where are we going to go for some
Dottie, that weather is headed our way, I fear. So much for a spring outfit tomorrow, back to a sweater.
Fen, my dog also got the bullseye rash. She had to go on antibotics too. I've seen what Lyme disease can do, be careful
Quiet at my house right now and for now I'm enjoying it. Cjs boyfriend is coming back from med school in st. Lucia on Thursday. I'm not liooking forward to him camping out at my house or her being out all hours of the night. I've enjoyed my CJ for the four months he's been gone. Ahh hubby just walked in, gonna go entertain him. Good night my friends

He's going to have to hire a pest guy to come and take care of those raccoons. They need to be trapped, and then the hole where they're getting in needs to be closed up. Otherwise, other vermin will continue to move on in.

Ahhh you're gonna love the update Fenny! So the racoons were sitting on the roof looking discombobulated... a mum and a baby and I think there may have been a third. And he hired a little guy he knows to go up and retrieve the mothballs (he's too big to fit in the space himself)... and with one of those grab tools the guy got, like, 125 balls and my mate got quite a few yesterday but I'll bet there are still more. So then he went to Home Depot and bought a big fan and charcoal. And, yep, the spaces from the exterior to the attic STILL HAVEN'T BEEN MESHED! And NO pest guy. You can lead a horse to water....................

My prediction... once the mothball stench dissipates the Coons are moving back in!

                Hey all -

Zen, horrible about the raccoon problem. He really needs some expert help. (But, I am sure that YOU realize that. :H)

Mama - CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR A++++++++++++++++++++++. I'm really sorry about the hassle with Bri but it is time to cut the losses.

Fen - I'm so scared of ticks. Be careful!!!

Dottie - glad that you were able to get out today. Don't overdo it though.

Liz - fantastic to see you. I can't stop thinking about the wedding.

Hello to Glass, FT, Tony, Pauly, Juja, and so many others that are missing. I hope that everything is absolutely fantastic!!!:h:l

                  Good lord, Zenmeister...is your friend a cheap-skate?

I figured it was a mama...attics make lovely nesting areas this time of year. They were probably on the roof because of the scrawny dude and his ball grabber. :H Those critters aren't going anywhere until the attic is sealed. It's a top notch spot for them- predator free (except for skinny guy and grabber tool).

Sounds like your friend has some rotten soffit and fascia problems on his house. If he doesn't shell out some $, the problem will NOT go away.

Tell him your pal fennel has vast experience in this area. I threw a box of mothballs beneath my tool shed to make the wood chucks move out. Not only did they NOT move out, my tool shed reeks to this day...and they redoubled their efforts at dining on the wiring of my fennel-mobile! I had to trap the entire family and relocate them to far off environs.

Also, I had to "chuck" proof the tool shed. I dug a two foot trench around the perimeter of the shed, and stapled chicken wire down into it from the shed walls at a forty-five degree angle...and fill it all back in again. No more wood chucks! It was a heck of a lot of work, too.

One Step at a Time - April 2014

I'm leaving on Friday for 2 weeks. I can't wait to be with my Mom. My niece flew up yesterday to stay with my Mom until I get there.

Hubby's sister contacted me today. She has some plans in May & June - wanted to get a feel for how hubby is. It is so very hard. I know that he feels awful! I can see it - but, it is his Dad. So, what should he do. Honestly, he is not physically able to do this. But, it just makes me feel guilty about everything. :upset:

Long story that I don't know how to condense very well. I used to work at the sister company. 25 years ago, I was very close to that brother's daughter (my current bosses niece). Lost contact (long story) but she has been back & working with me for the past 2 years. She's close to my age. We get along great. I was in her wedding for Pete's sake. Anyway, she is in the midst of a divorce, has 4 children (only one is under 18). But, she has connected with an old friend from high school and they have been dating. I think that he & hubby would have some stuff in common (photography, music, etc). So, I said something to hubby today about having a double date. He gave me THE look. But, dang it - I want to get out. So, I'm dropping it for now. But, after I get home, I might start doing more with them. She & I are going to a James Taylor concert. Anyway ,just ranting.

Fen - I've been missing you a lot! I was thinking this morning that if only you all lived closer, we could double date. Had a wonderful time last time.

Zen, I think I have as many deer as I do ticks! Turkeys, too. At my bird feeder, in the summer I get indigo buntings, baltimore orioles, blue birds (meal worms), many types of woodpeckers, chickadees, nuthatches, cowbirds, blue jays, gold finches, tufted titmice, cardinals, rose breasted grosbeaks and at the moment, I still have dark-eyed juncos. They usually migrate back up to Canada at this time, but it's still sufficiently wintry for them.

Additionally, I have non-feeder birds like whippoorwills and swallows.
