Meerkats are lovely to watch in the bush, popping up here there and everywhere. The last time I was in the Kgalagadi there was a colony quite close to the camp site - spent ages just watching them.

They have a very complex social hierarchy, that would be lovely to watch (which you did, lucky girl!)
But they boot out unwanteds which then die and they go on gang raids killing any meerkats from rival gangs.


God, I need to lighten up, who wants a natural history lesson......

Survival mechanisms. Yes, the bush has been good to me - many lovely sightings, but then, I get excited by impala in the Kruger, and they're as common as shoppers in the high street.

I honeymooned on the Zambezi in Zimbabwe. Well, not on it, by it. Pontooned down it for sundowners and would see the elephants come down to drink or swim to cross.

Amazing sights that will stay with me forever.

What are the deer (?) that look like they sat on a freshly painted toilet seat?

Thanks. Buffalo, hippo, eagles, warthogs, tiger fish, catfish is about what we saw. No cats. Fleeting glimpse of a giraffe on the way from the airport.
