a bit worried...party to go to!

I've been invited to a party on saturday nite. It is a big bonfire/fireworks thingy. Will be lots of aclohol, music and fun.
I am doing Abs, day 17, and am a bit worried I might be tempted to start drinking (and possibly not stop).
I am trying to plan ahead. I've bought cans of Pepsi Max to at least have something in a stubby holder to drink and hold.
Will have a thermos of tea to drink (it is the middle of winter here and bloody cold... no snow, but for an Aussie it is cold enough when it gets to 5 degrees celcius!)
Will dose up on Kudzu, L-Glut the day of the party to curb temptation. Don't have Topa.
    Any Tips???? PLEASE????

Gonna - I had the same situation last weekend BUT I wasn't on abs. I've been doing 3 drinks per night at home and at the party I did drink a whole bottle of red but that was over 9 hours. Not enough to make a mess/idiot of myself.

Can't help you with abs but if you're worried - I had my booze at a "drinks station" - I didn't mingle with drink in hand - so whenever the thought of "drink" came to mind, I had to weave my way through the crowd to get back to my bottle. So many times I just couldn't be bothered.

I did eat a truck-load of kudzu before, though.

Don't know if this is of any help but it seems to me, if you're on day 17 already, it would be a shame to blow it.

And, Yes ... it is bloody cold!

Hey gonna, you can take some of the kudzu and l-glut with you and take it through out. Especially the l-glut, just open the capsule or two and put it under your tongue to help the cravings go away pretty quickly... You can do this. I like to have some cranberry and soda with lime too...around the states people think I'm drinking when I'm not when I have that in my hand. I'm on Day 11 abs so right behind you!

          Hey GS,
Enjoy the party through sober eyes.Try and view the event differently as you won't have the cloud of alcohol around you.A few weeks ago I went to my favorite restaurant/bar and did not drink for the evening.I realized for the first time that the place is a dump.Boy did the wine put rose colored glasses on me.
Observe the others as they drink and see how it changes their behavior. If you're sober you realize what idiots we make of ourselves when we are drinking.
17 days is something to be really proud of.You'll feel great the next day if you don't drink.Let us know how it goes.
And be happy that you live in a country where 5 degrees is cold. My idea of cold is -10 and hip deep in snow.
          Good luck

a bit worried...party to go to!

            Hey There GS,

I went to my first big event 6 days into abs. I was only on 25 mg of topa so I really don't think that it made that much of a difference in my making it through the night! So, try not to let the fact that you don't have topa freak you out!! There is some really good advice for you above!! Take the supps and have fun watching others at the party through sober eyes!

I believe you have the cds. Try if you can to make some time for the them this week. I listened to the whole hypno cd in preperation of my big night out. I also listened to the sublimnal one as I was getting ready. Your plan is great! Having the cans of pepsi and thermos of tea on hand, plus taking the kudsu and l-glut...all good stuff!!

It really is quite a sense of accomplishment waking up the next morning knowing that you made it. You can do this! Just believe in yourself, and have fun!!

Best of luck!! Let us know how it goes!

            Donna

PS Tawny, Congrats on making it through your first big social event. Sounds like you had a blast! Also, sounds like you had a great plan and it worked really well!!

a bit worried...party to go to!

I've got the same situation coming up. At the end of July, we are going on vacation and am debating about whether or not to do 30 days of abs after that. But I keep thinking that something else is going to come up and I am going to give myself another excuse after excuse.

I've be abs 2 out of 3 days this week - one drink late Tuesday night (single malt Scotch, and it was worth every sip). I'm tired of spending money on booze, tired of wasting time in bars, tired of feeling like crap and tired of none of my clothes fitting because of the weight gain. I would love to get to the point that the idea of a drink is just and idea and not an obsession. But I know I have to "clean out my body" before that can happen.

Not ready to go the Topa route - I have not yet met my Dr. (new HMO - new doc) so I am a little leery about it. I am a little concerned about medicating myself, and really don't want to spend the money. Hypno tapes are on their way, and I am thinking about ordering the supps today.

Didn't mean to ramble off topic. I guess there are going to be plenty of special occassions - the way to take them on is one at a time.

Thankyou everyone for all your replies. I have found every single one of them helpful and plenty of info and ideas to consider.
I have decided to definately stay on Abs. Will do the big supps dose up and listen to the CDs.
Will post to let you know how it went.

                  Thanks Again

                    also an aussie

OMG it is sooo freezing here, sorry to whinge but 5 degrees celcius IS cold:| so i bet the red wine/port comes out at your party.)Thats why the cranberry juice/cran mixed with soda water for fizz in a wine glass is a great de-coy.WHENEVER anyone says "you right for a drink mate" then dont draw attention to yourself.just say "yeh im right thanks". my experience is people leave you alone if they know youve got a drink in your hand as well as them.Thank goodness for stubbie holders! My bet is that the non-drinking wont be as hard to manage as the droll conversation of the people that you used to party with. Its a LOOONNNG night hanging out with drunks when your not one of them!!Anyway,I wish you HEAPS of LUCK and HEAPS of STRENGTH:d .but dont bash yourself up over it.: have a good time if you can

party was excellent, no alcohol consumed by me!

                        HI,
Just wanted to again thank everyone for their support, advice, info etc when I put out this plea last week.
I went to the party on Sat nite and had a great time.
I didn't drink any alcohol, just Pepsi, tea and water. Didin't feel "wierd" by any comments or innuendos about me doing AF (nobody really knew or cared anyway).
I didn't make a big statement when asked if I wanted a drink, I just said " I'm ok thanks" and already had a Pepsi etc in my hand.
I'm glad I went, but must admit that the next day really wanted a drink. Just had to find lots of other things to do.
                        Thanks Again

Dear Gonnastop, been reading the posts you started and am very encouraged. I started MWO a couple of months ago and did well until we hosted a party and I tried to moderate. OK that night, but progressively got worse. Went back to old habits. It seems the next couple of months are all about social ocassions and I'm getting some encouragment from your posts. Still trying to figure out the best route for me. I'd like to not drink at home, so that is my goal for today. I'm on my way to get the loop around cd player for sleep hypno and then to the health food store for the supps. The program as a (whole) seems to work the best - go figure. Karen

                              Hi Karen

I'm really glad that you are feeling inspired.
Believe me this is not my first attempt at MWO either.

Re. the looping CD thingo. I ended up just buying an MP3 player that has the option of playing the same track over and over. It was pretty cheap (I think I paid $120 Aus for it), it is also very portable. I take it to work with me for the sublims, also I use it at nite with the sleep CDs. I just tuck the MP3 under my pillow.

As I said before I'm not on Topa (am thinking about getting it online though, as no Dr here seems to want to prescribe it to me). But I am doing all the other supps etc.

                              All the Best
