Alky, good job on the vacay plans. You are so ready to face yourself now and live a better life that some spirituality may sweeten your sobriety. For myself it's important to build new, positive memories to reflect on.Enlightened by MWO

Hi SK, thanks for the post. I'll keep updating in the subscriber forum. Unfortunately, people in the GD forum like sugarbeat scan posts without much thought and end up projecting their own problems and idiosyncrasies on other posters. I'm between 2-3 months alcohol free and I certainly don't need any moralizing lectures about "powering through it."In the middle of my life's journey, I found myself in a dark wood, as I had lost the straight path. It is a difficult thing to speak about, how wild, harsh and impenetrable that wood is. Just thinking about it recreates the fear. It is scarcely less bitter than death, but in order to tell of the good that I found there, I must tell of the other things I saw there. --Dante, paraphrased

A big thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread. Posting in General Discussion is generally pretty useless. People either want to comment about this "army" that doesn't really exist or their undies. Whatever. To each their own.

Sugarbeat's post was in no way a moralizing lecture.
Best of luck to you.

When I over drank I could be lots of fun but I also had times where I said all the things I was too afraid to say sober. That didn't work well for anyone involved. I was a people pleaser who smiled on the outside and simmered and eventually boiled on the inside. I drank because I couldn't/wouldn't face the mess I made of my life.
I'd done a lot of work on myself prior to taking baclofen--therapy, classes, reading, cranial sacral, the Bars and on and on. This helped me a lot when I got sober. I was able to implement what I'd learned, be gentle and accepting with myself, mind my business and become emotionally healthy. I had expectations when I got sober but I never thought I'd get myself. It's been a wonderful year and a quarter.
Alky, I wish the same for you. I'm glad you asked for help and you've identified what you need.

Anyway, that line poisoned our marriage, but more importantly I've thought frequently after that, "what if it's actually true???" What if I actually am just an asshole? I don't want to be and I'd like to do something about it.Well the answer is in your rude reply to Sugarbeat - you are NOT A NICE PERSON.... you are indeed an asshole

I was a horrible person when drinking alcoholically, and during previous attempts at abstenance. It was only when I started to learn how to live, that I entered true recovery and I'm still not 'fixed' and will never be - it's a constant journey.I used the Sinclair Method to beat my alcoholic drinking.
Drank within safe limits for almost 2 years
