Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...
Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Just get through today. Tomorrow will look after itself when it becomes today, because today is all we have to think about.
Friendship is not about how many friends you have or who you've known the longest. It's about who walked into your life, said "I'm here for you", and proved it.

Thanks for the shoutout abcowboy! This second time around my quit feels better, more real if that makes any sense. This place has been so very helpful for me achieving these great results.
Hope you are feeling better Ginger, the flu has been pretty bad this year. Make sure you are getting a lot of rest and are staying hydrated.
Summerglow, it feels crappy to feel crappy, but your honesty will help you get back on the AF trail. Hope the doctor was helpful today. I have felt great these past 30 days, kicking AL to the curb can do that!

Hi Everyone, Day 4 here. A belated Happy New Years!! Yay Canadian Junior Hockey Team. It was a real nail biter.
Ginger I hope you are feeling a lot better. There is a terrible flu going around these parts too. I'm the only one in the household who hasn't succumbed... and thanks for fetching me on facebook and leading me back to this blog I started way back when I had the first few days of my longest sober stint under my belt. I always feel like i am HOME when I come back here with my tail between my legs.
Lots of new faces and encouragement abounds!! So happy for you all who have had varying measures of success with abstinence. I'll get there; I know I will.
Lots of people here who have been here from the start too... keeping the torch burning! Thanks."If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading."

SS, Yeah!!! Welcome home ☺. I'm still really sick. Can't even look at this screen w/o my head pounding. It was 84 here yesterday and all I could do is sit and ache. I promise to be back as soon as I rally. Stay well. This stuff sucks!

I'm here again and was surprised to see my join date was 2008. I've been sober for two years, two days, two weeks, two months, but I keep on because I'm a pretty good functioning alcoholic. I've learned how to drink and never have hangovers or do stupid things, but it's the monkey on my back that drives me nuts. I always have to know I've got a good stash of wine. I'm in the process of letting it run out and getting ready to cold turkey it. So much of my life revolves around alcohol that it's hard to imagine it not being important. I've been drinking my entire adult life and I'm 75 and healthy as a horse. I'm hoping the stories here will keep me motivated. There's got to be more to life than waiting for the next drink.

Howdy all, I think I turned a corner on this crud I've had the last few days. Keeping my fingers crossed it's behind me. Unfortunately, Hubby came down with it so I know it will be at least 5 days before he feels human again. Dang bugs anyway!
Baja, sounds like you are ready to be free! I was a lot like you in that I'd gotten pretty good at avoiding the negative affects of AL. I hated the fact that everyday I was putting poison in my body though. Call it what you like BUT it is poison. The physical side affects prove it. I'm so glad not to have to think about how many bottles to buy here and how many bottles to buy there. Small towns you have to get crafty or someone might catch on to the amounts you purchase! Like I was ever fooling anybody!
Nar, Meshellrn, Open Halo, ABC and everyone else. Glad you are here and are committed to getting that damn monkey off your backs for the last time! We can do this together!!
Stay well and stay warm!

Sober Soul thanks so very much for starting this thread! It was the first thread I turned to, when I (smartly) came back to the MWO. And I can say it has been so very helpful in my keeping the AF path this time around! Glad you've come back!
Meshal and summer goal, hope you are both doing well, remember it's one day at a time, and we are here to help.
Welcome Baja, it's never too late to be good to yourself, and leaving AL behind is a definite bonus.
Ginger feel better soon, the flu has been really bad up here as well, I don't think it helps it is going to be -30 tomorrow!
Our boys did well cowboy and narilly! A bit too much of a nail biter for me though...
Keep well quitters.Last edited by open halo; January 6, 2015, 08:28 PM.
