ABCowboy, we are so happy you have decided to remain here, we are here to never judge but to always help. We are in this battle together, and when one falters, to help each other up. We have all been there and know how difficult it can be. Stay close, the best to you and your family.

Spent all day, and I mean all day at a hockey rink from 8:30 am until 4 pm, so Ginger if you are sending sun, I'm begging for some right now!

Pauly, watching the Whitney Houston movie is just further reinforcement that we can not let addiction rule our lives, together one day at a time battling AL. We can get this done. Stay good everyone!

Dang! I just lost a long post. Using the phone makes posting a little tricky but I like being connected all the time.

Long story short.... Min, climb back on that wagon, girl. It's what YOU want so you'll get there. Please try and come here before you take that drink. I can tell you that if you do, you will be way less likely to follow through with that drink! Feel free to private message me anytime. If you want to instant message through Facebook, private message me your name. That goes for any of here.

And.... go Seahawks!! Super bowl here we come!

What a win for the Seahawks Ginger, you must be pretty happy! One day at a time Min, and before you know it you will have racked up those AF days. I am over the sweats thank god, but I CAN NOT sleep to save my life, it's starting to affect me greatly. I have tried everything hot baths, warm milk, exercise, sleepytime tea, the only thing half way working is Nyquil and/or Neocitrin and even so I am waking up around 4:30 am, every morning...I need some advice, anybody???

                      Hi,

As for the lack of sleep...
Have you guys tried a meditation tape/ app? I have found some free ones on itunes. I also have a ocean waves, music song on my phone. Plug in, ear plugs in...drift off. There are several sounds to choose from, rain, birds etc - what ever is calming.

I never thought I would be into the mediation stuff, but it has been very helpful.

                      Good luck.

I use over the counter sleep aid once in awhile. Melatonin and 5htp doesn't work for me. I use meditation when I wake up in the middle of the night. Be careful with Nyquil. It's active ingredient is AL.

Have you tried Benadryl to sleep? I have even tried a Dramamine, but I'm not sure that's a good idea.
I have never gotten the sweats when I stopped drinking, but I do get the shakes. I feel nervous and jittery. So why do we do this to ourselves? Sober and feeling good tonight.

Exercise really works for me as far as sleeping. I try to make it a priority to get at least 45 minutes of good exercise every day. One day I'll run, the next I'll swim. I have 2 cups of coffee every morning then no caffeine of any kind the rest of the day. When I first quit drinking I took melatonin but I don't need to any more.

I think it takes a few months being AF before your body and brain really get back to normal. I would be careful with the Nyquil, Open Halo. You can get hooked on that and doesn't it have 10% alcohol. I know not sleeping well sucks, but it's still way better than drinking and passing out every night! I guess we just have to try different things to do or not do until we find what works.

MinStar and AB, stick with it and fight the good fight. You know you don't like it when you drink so think of that when The Beast is putting those drinking thoughts into your head. You know you don't want to drink and there is nothing that is making you drink. It's a decision that you make. You are much stronger than The Beast when it comes right down to it. You can do it.

I'm glad everyone is checking in and keeps being accountable to eachother. It really does make a difference when we are all doing it together.

Thanks so much for the advice everyone. OH NO I never knew that AL was in Nyquil, I guess that figures why I was drawn to taking it though, am giving that up ASAP. I'm going to try the meditation tapes , hope that helps! Oh did I mention how awesome everyone is on this thread, Let's get in another AF week everyone! We are stronger than the Beast, thanks for the reinforcement Chief!
