Anyone in the First Week of Their Unpteenth Quit?

Hop on Board, Ginger and good for you Paulywogg for coming back. This is the entry point for us re-offenders. We don't judge (All of MWO is good for that but we are all so hyper-sensitive about being judged, aren't we?)

I find the more I blog on my grannygetssober.blogspot.ca blog, the more I feel like I am all in, totally committed and there's no looking back.

Starting a blog is really easy. People actually follow your progress and comment on your posts so it's very interactive and all about YOU.

Let's do whatever it takes to get this monkey off our backs permanently.

I don't think I'm doing this right. I had a very hard time getting back to this blog post this morning. Is there a way to set alerts so you can find your way back here? Sorry to be such a nube.
      Day 3.

Anyone in the First Week of Their Unpteenth Quit?

We're still here, aren't we? We went to a Japanese Restaurant and there was a two for one special on a delicious draft beer advertised. Hubby wanted a draft beer and I love draft beer especially when it's ice cold. I love the first sip. Gawd I feel like I'm writing porn. I ordered club soda and lime with a straw and it was as good as it gets. I think my imagination just fires up memories of draft beer being so ahhhhhh !! My drink was refreshing and I really did enjoy it right down to the last drop.

              But I was tempted.

We're still here SS. I hear you, my hubby is off tomorrow through the weekend and we have plans on the lake. Something about being on the water makes me think about a nice wine on a sunset cruise. Day 3 for me today, I'm going to remember all the pain that cool wine will bring if I let it.

Good on you resisting that beer.

Anyone in the First Week of Their Unpteenth Quit?

It would be great for you guys to stick together! It was easier for me to make the commitment when others were involved and I did not want to waste the time of people who had helped me or set a bad example for people with fewer days than me.

I posted this on another thread but thought you might be interested, too. These articles explain why it is so easy to forget the bad parts while remembering the good parts of drinking.

They are about human relationships but are relevant to those with AL:

Why you Only Remember the Good Stuff of a Relationship ? Part I |

"Time's Up!": Why You Only Remember The Good Stuff of a Bad Relationship--Part II

I think it takes effort and vigilance to keep the bad stuff at the top of your mind. One technique is to write down in detail (before you forget) exactly how you felt after your last bout of drinking or when you hit your bottom. Read it whenever you are temped to drink.

At the same time that you are remembering the downsides of drinking, it is so important to notice and appreciate even the littlest things that are better because you do not drink. The combination of the memory of what alcohol has done to you and constant gratitude for your new life can help make this your last quit.

All the best to all of you. Please feel free to let me know if I ever can help you, NS

"Change is not a bolt of lightning that arrives with a zap. It is a bridge built brick by brick, every day, with sweat and humility and slips. It is hard work, and slow work, but it can be thrilling to watch it take shape. I believed I could not quit drinking, that people would not like me sober, that life would be drained of its color — but every ounce of that was untrue. Which made me wonder what else I believed that was untrue. What other impossible feats were within my grasp."

That really moved me SS, you should put that in the toolbox.

Thanks for the articles NS, that is exactly what is keeping me on the path, remembering the misery and the hope and anticipation of a better life.

Good morning! This is day 4 for me. I feel really good about the days so far but this weekend is Mother's Day and we are invited out. We live in "wine country" and it flows freely around here at gatherings. :~/ I've gone to the tool box and have a plan so I hope that will help. Thank you all for being here. I feel like I can do this with your help!

Do you guys ever just have one of those days where you're angry, maybe sad/frustrated and you know that a drink will in fact make you feel better?for at least a bit anyways, that's one of my huge stumbling blocks right now,i feel like a wimp, why not just deal with reality and emotions as they come along, instead of wanting instant gratification

YES! And unfortunately I fell victim to this lie ("AL will make you feel better") a couple of nights ago... I have been to afraid to admit it to you all, but there it is... I refuse to call this my Day 2... This stumble is not going to put me back at square one... Instead, I have been sober 14 out of the last 15 days...Thats a huge accomplishment to me...

I have been struggling with my youngest child who will be graduating from high school this month... Unlike his sister, (she is 20 - a junior in college / he is 18 headed off to college this fall) he is irresponsible.. And I worry if I got it right or wrong... I was feeling like "shit"ake mushrooms Tuesday and caved... I just wanted to escape - and wine sure will do that for me... And guess what?? I woke up the next day feeling worse... I felt terrible and I disappointed my husband and my worries about my son are still there... I did nothing but compound my stress... I'm such an idiot... A repeat idiot....

I do think its smart to have a plan for Mother's Day... I am still figuring mine out... Although I am not a morning drinker, I usually like a mimosa or bloody Mary at brunch on Mothers Day... The best gift I could give myself ( and my kids!) this year is to enjoy a large glass of club soda with a lime instead... Praying for the strength for that!

Since she mentioned it in her post, I am strongly encouraging ya'll to check out Sober Soul's blog... It is incredibly honest and inspiring.... We truly have a gifted writer and friend amongst us .... Happy Thursday!
