Anyone in the First Week of Their Unpteenth Quit?

What a great thread you've got here, SS! Love that you're staying strong, and sounding happy! Oh, and the "bloodshot years"? I resemble that remark!

Anyone in the First Week of Their Unpteenth Quit?

Thunderstorms all day today here in Ohio so I won't get anything done outside. Guess I'll go to the gym and run or swim then hit the hot tub. We've had a lot of rain lately......good for the garden but also good for the weeds!

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their AFness today!

Chief, I guess that means it's headed our way tomorrow. Just as well I'm working. Came home and watched the Germany Brazil game with hubby. Off to make dinner.

              Hi All
Had a great day today. Sunny and warm here, no tornados thank goodness. Did my hour workout at the gym but was intending to run this evening. I am just too tired so going to have an early night. Was at a meeting until late last night and then up and out again early this morning. It will be nice to have an early AF free evening.
              Hugs to you All

Hey Don - I was just over reading SS's blog. Then I spent quite a bit of time reading some other blogs. Great stuff.

Good morning all! Don, It has been quiet around here. What's up with that? I'm heading out for a week trip to Lake Coeur D'Alene. I've got my soda pop and plan all packed and ready to go. Looking forward to this trip. The others have been a little scary but I'm feeling much stronger and much more committed in my quit. I'll keep my eyes wide open for the beast though!

Hi All, glad to see I'm not alone...lol.

I'm doing well. Working outside getting things ready for a busy week. We have family coming in from N. Carolina, Texas, and Florida starting Sunday. They'll be here until the following Sunday. It'll be hectic and a houseful but fun. Everyone is use to me drinking so it will be different for us all with me not, but I'm looking forward to it. I feel so much better and people tell me I look good and healthy.

How are you guys doing? Ginger, have fun on your trip and enjoy your AFness and think about us. You're doing great! Liz, Nora...you doing okay?

54 days for me and liking it!

Anyone in the First Week of Their Unpteenth Quit?

Well........... here I am again............. the Nth giving up in 40 odd years of trying and failing to give up ( but still sort of functioning at least career wise - but nowhere near as successful as I know I would have been if I hadn't been under the influence and increasingly obesely fat for the last four decades.... ).
I had been about two or so weeks alcohol free till three eves ago when I got some email bad news ( financial rather than emotional..........too complicated to explain - the point is it was a trigger for depression...... ) .
Anyway, I just KNEW I had to get a large pizza and three bottles of wine..........and I did just have at them.........( I live alone ) flicking channels......
It WAS a great feeling for the first hour or two. Last memory is shouting at the politicians on Newsnight. Or was it singing along to Glastonbury catch-up tv - esp Foster the People's Pumped up Kicks ( a discovery for me which i now can't get out of my head ). I vaguely remember thinking if I stopped drinking long enough ( ? four years maybe ? ) i could be as thin as the lead singer.
Well...........no need to detail all the humiliation and hangover etc etc the next day ( Thursday ).
So.......... have managed Thurs and Fri night abstentions, now, Sat a.m. ( in England ) can finally feel the hangover wearing off........... and the desire to go completely on the wagon again increasing........ Next task will be to pour ( far from the first time ) about ?25 worth of delicious wine and spirits down the sink as evidence of good intent.........( then have to dispose of the empties somewhere Old Billy the neighbour won't see them...........so not the house re-cycling box, have to be at the supermarket......have to try and smuggle them to the car when he's not pottering outside..... )
I notice someone in this thread up above mentioned Antabuse - well it did work for me seven years ago when I used it to kick start what turned out to be a full 18 months of wagonneering. Lost a lot of weight too.......... But always hankering after the wine bottle, esp with evening meals.......... till eventually in Rome with friends fell right off the wagon.........again. That was 2008.........Still.............18 months of no drinking is better than no months of no drinking I suppose........
Just wondering if anyone on here has had success with Nalmefene ?
I tried Baclofen three or so years ago - zero effect.
I know I know...........one should be strong enough without these supports..........but 45 years of ludicrously over the top drinking is a lot of history to overturn / confront...........hope it's not too late..............

Welcome Riv. Do what you have to do to stop drinking. It's just hard to stop.
Don you're doing so good! Wish I was 54 days in. Still just taking it one day at a time here. I dare not count. Things are calm around here so I don't anticipate any temptations but I still have to watch that the beast doesn't sneak up on me. Feel so much better sober, doesn't make sense to want to drink again, but think about it a lot.
Bridal shower for me this afternoon. Going to run in a bit and hang in the pool. Happy Saturday all.
