Anyone in the First Week of Their Unpteenth Quit?

Lizann, I think the important thing is to keep trying. I can't tell you how many times I tried, failed and self loathed because I couldn't get it to stick. It will come, you will get there. Just keep trying. Knowing we need to stop the use of AL is the first step in stopping. We've all been right where you are and we are here for you!

Chief, got a question for you.... Do you hang out on any other threads or only this one? I'm curious about how much time you feel you need here to maintain your AFness.

SS and Ori, check in we miss you!

SoberSoul, had to chime in here. Sorry to hear about the break in your AF time. Done the same after 3 months. Took me a full, wasted, scary month to get back. J-vo broke and jumped back in within days.
Hindsight is wonderful. Like Chief said, the first drink was well on the way days before you tasted it.....it was for me.
I got really scared for my health within days and still continued.....it can be so hard to get back. Looking and feeling good BECAUSE of our sobriety can easily fool us into thinking we may be able to drink moderately. Who the feck was I kidding? I drank every night except 2 in that month! How many more times do I need? NONE! Believe me, it is the same old crap.
I knew if I didn't get a grip this week there might not be a chance to. The week and night before day 1 I made a few announcements to certain people that I was an alcoholic. I believe that by not admitting it before that I was leaving myself with an 'out'. Now I will feel accountable in front of these people.
Like you, I have many friends and family who sit in wait for when I drink again....they are relieved when I do. Of course, birds of a feather flock together. I am looking after me here and if anyone doesn't feel comfortable, jog on!
IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO BE WHAT YOU MIGHT HAVE BEEN
Relapse starts long before the drink is drunk!!.Fresh Start!

Ginger, I don't really hang out on other threads. I browse around and I'm a subscriber so I post there and on the fitness thread and I like the word association thread. I usually check in in the morning and then in the evening before I'm ready for bed. I always think about the people I've gotten to know who are in the early stages of AFness, how they are doing and try and help them by telling them what I've learned and where I've failed in the past. Sometimes they like what I say and sometimes not so much.....

I am NOT boring when I am sober. I think hubby and everyone else would think I was fun to be around if I had a glass of something red in my hand; no matter what was in it. I feel like I have to 'secretly' not drink. I have the opposite problem of those who secretly drink. Go figure!!
Screw everyone! I have to do this for me.

Deb, I know I haven't around much and I still haven't pm'd you and I'm really sorry:upset: but I have been reading your great thread pretty regularly and had to comment on this
...Hubs would understand how Not Boring you are if HE DIDNT HAVE A FRICKEN DRINK IN HIS HAND!!!!

That simple fact seems to have completely blinded him to what a wonderful wife and partner he has.

I sorry if I sound harsh here but he's gone down the drinking buddy road before and I remember how badly that affected you.

I'm staying close. I'm not totally AF but will never stop trying . You are nail on the head BTW that all of us here will never...ever... ever...ever be AF forever amen unless
              we do it for ourselves.
              Love you:l:h

SS, sorry you don't have much support at home but thinking it sounds like your son is a bit of a rock for you. Someone worth being a role model for.

I'm not af. Been running for years and been trying to redo my life. Changed careers, paid off a shit load of debt. Slowed down finally and been dealing with everything I've been running from. Course been basically been working 24/7 for a week plus so it hasn't helped.

Arranging with gf that I haven't seen in months so we can break up. No answer cause she knows. Friends don't get it. Anyway.

Chief, Ginger you're both heroes. Thanks for helping me stay grounded even when I feel insane. Qi Gong and acupuncture tomorrow. Will have to tell my Sifu about my drinking soon.

Three months or so to move from the life I've known to the one I've chosen. Might break up via text if no word.

Liz, I definitely get the whole life transition thing. Be kind to yourself and remember he isn't really reacting to you. We're all searching for control. A little certainty.

Chief, There was a post from someone named Alchio and it had an early quote from SS. Nothing else just the quote from SS. So I asked him/her to tell us about her/himself? He/she must have come back and deleted it. It's someone new. Only has 14 or so posts.

Ori, Glad you keep coming back and keep trying. You will get it, you are determined. Sorry work has been so brutal. That's a tough one. Stay close!

                        SS, Watcha doing?

Lizann, Hope you have a restful weekend.

I'm glad you keep coming back, Ori. You are at a turning point in your life on a few different levels. It seems you keep hanging on to the gf. I know it's tough....I've been there. Let me ask you something....if you haven't seen her for months and she's not answering, haven't you already broke up? I hate to see you in limbo. Maybe you need to put this whole thing behind you and really start to look forward to the rest of your life . You know this situation certainly isn't helping your desire to quit drinking. I would imagine that when you drink you just constantly think about her and your mind is in a continuous loop. Not a good place to be, my friend.

Maybe I'm way off base here, but at least it's food for thought.

                          Stick with us...

On point rather Chief. Been looking to get together with her to end it. Even started to think of just writing a letter and sending it with her house key. Better than a text and I could stop paying for her phone. Been reflecting on whether I have any other unresolved issues I need to take care of too. Thanks.
