One Step at a Time - May 2014

Zen, I'm with Dottie. I can't wait to hear what you got from Fresh Market!

When Mrs. Fen and I visit MIL at the Hilton Head timeshare in April, I always shop at the Fresh Market. MIL is a "Bi-Lo" girl...always thrifty. That place freaks me right out, though...it's like ptomaine poisoning waiting to happen! :H

I went quietly vegetarian three weeks or so ago...maybe even a month.

I got? all organic? qinoa, ground flax seed, oats, almond butter, hummus, Ezekiel breads, soy milk, Earth Balance faux butter, Daiya faux cheeses, tofu, tempeh, Tofurkey products, Toffuti cream cheese and sour cream, coconut yogurt, soy burgers, hummus, tahini, veg stock, Vegenaise (fake mayo), Braggs liquid aminos (like soy sauce), all kinds of beans, lentils, organic Vegan soups in cans, coconut milk, a good supply of fresh fruit & veg and a huge bag of frozen organic mixed berries. And some other shit! :H

Mission accomplished except for Miso paste and Nutritional yeast. Oh and Turmeric root. I'll have to go to Whole Foods for that lot.

I'm making Asparagus, Cilantro and Coconut Thai Soup for dinner. At this point I'm so fed up with food I don't feel like eating!

Well hell girl! Why didn't you say?! I could have wracked your brains! I thought about starting with vegetarian and ditching the dairy afterwards and I may have bitten off too much. I'm going to eat a little fish for a while though. Only wild caught.

Do you think they leave the cooked food sitting around for a while at FM then? I've only had a couple of cooked items from them (they do a really good Italian Wedding Soup). I'm sure with the Stick up yer Ass types in Boca they'll be careful not to poison the buggers in case they get sued...

We have been vegetarian for a while and I am leaning toward vegan. I haven't had milk in ages and cheese is losing its appeal for some reason.

I'll tell you what the fake stuff tastes like (cheese, sour cream, creamed cheese, sausages, "meat"). Want me to send you the guide I worked off to get a shopping list together? I have it on this computer (I'm in the office).

Bill just ate ready cooked Pot Roast from Costco. I came in and I was, like, OMG... that looks pretty tasty! He's doing the vacuuming though... hehe... (That's why I'm camping in the office. But Fenny got the home made cat food recipe and Dotts got the Vegan stuff so maybe youz should keep me in here!)

Hey Zen - yep, you should stay in there. :H I laughed at your 'pinch, punch, first of the month....'

I'm vegetarian but not vegan. It's probably been about 16 years since I actually ate meat. But, I know that at some restaurants or different potluck occasions that the dishes probably had chicken or beef broth. People try to warn me but sometimes, it's hard to tell. And, I will be cooking meat for my Mom while I'm up there. Anything that she will eat, I will fix.

So thrilled about K9 - FINALLY!!!!

I like inconspicuous tattoos. Not on the face! And, I can't stand the big ears thing. But, I'm old and that's just my own opinion. Nothing against the person, just my own personal thing.

Dottie - you sound WONDERFUL!! Glad you got the paperwork done and did manage a workout. Hope hubby is better.

Mama - you are FANTASTIC!!! Yahoo for Clay!

Fen - been thinking about you a lot. :l

Ok - I MUST pack. I leave tomorrow for my Mom's and I haven't even started packing. I will be back.........

Zen, you crack me up! :H

I LOVE quinoa! I will send you an awesome recipe for it via p.m.

I never bought already prepared foods at FM. I did buy chicken, fish, veggies, coffee and wine, of course, while at Hilton Head with the in-laws.

One evening, MIL was trying to serve for a second time her anemic chicken breast marinated in salad dressing...but Mrs. Fen wanted "Chicken Cacciattore". FIL by-passed the anemic chicken breast for my offering. He loved food so much, and MIL always bought bargain basement ingredients. I really miss him. :h

Anyway, instead of beef burgers at the cabin, we do Boca burgers. I'm perfectly fine with it, but Mrs. Fen does her own thing when she is out of town, which is fine with me.

She offered our cabin to a business partner today to hunt turkey...he got two of them and asked if we wanted one, which she relayed to me. I told her no. I was a little peeved that she offered our place for hunting. I really like the turkeys.
