Hi all, first huge congrats to SBL -- you inspire us!

Been painting -- yes, the bedroom, still. First I was going to paint on a weekend but the weather improved so we spent it hiking in the woods. Definitely a better choice. Then I spent seven hours painting (half the room) but the colour was not going to work. Yesterday was another 8 hours but am pleased with this colour choice. Willl probably be another 2-3 (shorter) days of painting the remaining walls and trim and then putting everything back in order. Tons of energy after an AF night!

Sending thoughts of strength to everyone.

Thanks for the kind words, Free Have fun finishing your bedroom project. Definitely fun to design the color and light of a room to be how you like it.

                  Have a great day everyone!

I am not sure if it were mentioned or not but April was alcoholism awareness month in the USA. For some reason, seeing this fact today (in May), stopped me in my tracks. I have never paid attention to these types of "month" or "day" declarations. Truth be told, I probably would have considered "alcohol awareness month" the month for others in alcohol trouble and thought no more about it. When I look at this month declaration now, I accept that I am a part of the reason for this type of declaration. I am the end result of why people should be aware of the dangers of alcohol.

                      Hi, Everyone.

May 22 and all is well. Feeling a little fidgity - some things at work, a troubled kid (school problems), and not enough exercise. All fixable, but certainly NOT with alcohol.

Hi all, another day of painting for me and I should be finished with the bedroom. Since it is like a five hour meditation I am quite happy to be engaged in the process.

Happy to wake up clear headed and ready for the day/weekend.

What a lovely thread this is!

Congratulations Skull on your 200 plus days, that is a wonderful achievement.
Free at Last I really understand how you feel about painting, I love decorating, not so much the preparation, getting the room ready etc but the actual process I find intensely satisfying, creative and quite meditative. Also it is so exciting as you never know exactly how it will look until you put all your things back into the room etc.

The thing of socialising more without alcohol I find so very true, I have been sober since the 1st May and it has been a very social month ....... not so much in the big way parties/dinners out etc but in the small way.... lots of texts, phone conversations, emails, coffees with friends, walks with friends, meals with family members, chats in the garden with neighbours, art gallery with neighbours etc. Also really small things:- when I am out and about walking or shopping I feel more of a connection with other pedestrians or shop assistants... nothing huge... but more of a friendliness to a fellow human being!! The last couple of years of my drinking were horrid in so far as although I was still going to work every day I was isolating more and more in the eves and at weekends. Alcohol was really locking me in, even when I wasn't actually drinking I was obsessing about it, where as now I feel more free and more part of the human race!!
New life started on 1st May 2014, One day at a time I will work at continuing it forever!

May 26 - How are we all doing. This thread is hanging on by a thread, but I hope we're all still here.

5 more days of May - I survived many, many boozy events this weekend - a pang here and there, but over all feeling great.

                            Night, all.

                              I'm here! How's everyone doing?

I did well this weekend at an old friend's 40th birthday party-- a reunion with old friends. Stayed sober and had a genuinely great time. I got many comments, a couple said "I look like my high school self" in regards to my health. That was fun

Hope everyone's doing good- just a few more days left in May...

Popping in to say hello. Finished painting the bedroom, put it back in order, hung pictures around the apartment, long walk in the woods, and visited with friends. Great long weekend.
