    My brother just flatlined.

My brother, L. John Ernst just flatlined due to complications from drinking.

He was revived at the hospital, and is now in a medically induced coma.

My brother believed that he was "nothing". Severely depressed?a shell of what he once was. He was a rock and symphonic composer. Yet he is EVERYTHING to me.

I, too, oftentimes think that I am "nothing". So many regrets in life, wanting to make change, seemingly unable to make it happen.

So let us all collectively make this our wake-up call. We ARE something. We ARE worthy. We CAN get better. Depression and alcoholism can rob us of our soul. My brother thought he was nothing. And here's what this 'nothing' composed. Check out links below; I couldn't find a full version online anywhere. If anyone shows interest, I'll post more links of his music. If you find joy in it, it will give joy to me, and if he survives, joy to him as well.

a one minute clip at: L. John Ernst - Vermilion River, for orchestra - Classical Archives
or search "vermilion river (L. John Ernst)" on iTunes for a slightly longer clip.

He was nominated for contemporary composer of the year for his contributions to the "Masterworks" symphonic series. An eye opener for those of us on a self-destructive path like me.

Nichau, prayers for your brother and family. I too often felt like nothing when I drank. We are somebody important no matter who we are. I truly hope he makes it though this and realizes how much he is loved and how talented he is.

Keep telling him how much you love him and how important he is to you and everyone. He can hear you I promise.

Much love and many prayers being sent to you and your brother:h

I am so sorry to hear that.

Too often we can only see ourselves through the eyes of others and when we are lost in the fog we just can't do that. Glad to hear you're taking something positive away from this tragedy though.

Nichau, how very sad and hard for you and your family, my thoughts are with you. My brother died from al, liver failure, coma and died. No goodbyes, nothing. Al takes everything away from us and more and it is very very sad.

A very talented man and beautiful voice.

                    Hugs to you Nich.
