Sober Junists- Assemble!
June begins tomorrow- who's on board to commit to a sober 30 days through the first month of summer? Yep, for us that means boring-ass iced tea, lemonade, soda pop while everyone else "gets to indulge" in beer/wine/booze- and all the hangovers, anxiety, neglect, and sickness that comes with it for so many people.

Hi SBL, thanks for getting June started. I am starting off on a long road trip that will take all summer. Will have limited internet connection but will check in on the monthly threads when I can. Appreciate the generous support provided on these threads. Thanks!Free at Last

Hi, June 1!
Thanks for keeping us going, Skull. I actually LIKE iced tea and have started making my own variations - come for a glass!
Free - I am excited for your adventure - let us know how it is going when you get a chance - I hope you can from time to time. Don't forget to focus some on your sobriety to keep it going (sorry, I'm a mom, I almost had to say that).
I hope others join us, this thread is a good place to check in.

Sober Junists- Assemble!
Evening All,
Just got back from AA meeting where I picked up a one month sobriety chip (as I was sober for the whole of May). I enjoyed the applause etc!! So it's nice to be in a thread where we are all celebrating being sober in June, let's treasure each day! xxNew life started on 1st May 2014, One day at a time I will work at continuing it forever!

June 1, over and out.
Sorry I didn't get your joke, Skull. These bloody words with no faces or intonations...
Good on you for going to AA and getting your chip, DD. Do you go regularly, or did you go just for that. I like what Rahul posted in the nest - he went to AA just to hear himself say in public, "I am an alcoholic."
Good night!

Hi all, we're heading out to the American West. We'll be doing lots of day hikes for the first month or so and then taking on a long distance hike (possibly as much as 500 miles), which will involve 2+ months of backpacking. Lots of time to reflect, write, and read. Will post when I canFree at Last

Thanks, all. Last year we backpacked 100 miles through Switzerland -- 11 passes, 36,000 feet of elevation gain and loss, over 14 days. Part of my desire to remove AL from my life was to begin to get in physical shape needed for this trip. Still packing and taking care of loose ends. Journey starts this weekend.Free at Last

Free your trip sounds fab, you must be very fit to undertake something like that.
Soft focus thanks for your congrats, I thrive on praise, how long have you been AF?
Pavati, I do go to AA from time to time. A long time ago I was very active in it and it helped me stay sober for 3 years plus! I loved it. Since then I have changed, I cherry pick my meetings and don't go that often, in fact I did not go once in May!! What helps me now to stay sober is that I have made the simple decision that whatever happens I will not drink. I like myself sober, but I loathe myself drunk. Without alcohol I find it fairly easy to be the person I really want to be!New life started on 1st May 2014, One day at a time I will work at continuing it forever!

Hi, All:
Way to go, DD. Sounding strong.
FREE! I am excited for you (and also a tad jealous). Not sure where you're going, but I read Wild by Cheryl Strayed about hiking the John Muir trail (she did it alone). I read it when I was sort of trying to find my way out - a good book IMHO. Have a wonderful time, and I hope you get to check in from time to time.
June 4, over and out.
