How is it June? Birthday party was fun. I spent most of my time with my sister in law who I don't get to see often. I love her! It's about a two hour car ride and it was beautiful and relaxing. Little kids everywhere, ah to be that young again! BBQ today, no al there so I won't have to deal with temptation.
I'm starting my month off on the right foot.
          Have a great day!

Thanks to The Wonderful Nora for taking us and out and getting us in :wd:

Lost a long post yesterday Grrrrrr and didn't have time to re construct it so here's the readers digest version:

Girls did tremendous Friday night. What a great time we all had! very proud of them.

It's good to be back in the saddle again so to speak....May was very tuff for me towards the end. I did not stay my true course, in full disclosure - I want to start out on the right foot like you Liz!!

11 days till Arizona----- I'm trying to prepare myself for having to stay on the Ranch with Matt during the day. Very Tempting to Ask Ron, the director to just let him come to town with me for a few hours so we can have some time but.....he wouldn't have earned it and so will most likely make his relationships even worse there...

Ahhh relationships...My bugaboo if ever there was one! Wish they'd had a course in college for that:H

sunny here today so taking the boat out hopefully. Picnic on Blake Island but no crabbing yet...:upset:

Have fun at the BBQ Liz . Stay warm Glass- winter Down Under Heading your way, I see. Pauly, Orange is The New Black Starts June 6th. Let's get popcorn and hunker down!

Love you all to pieces :l:h

                Morning all,
Slept in not need to go grocery shopping and pick up some tings needed for the house. I will be so glad when I can exhale on this one.

Thanks Kradle. Winter officially started yesterday and the temp is still averaging at about 70 degrees, so not sure when it will decide to come and visit us. Good luck at the ranch; I hope it will be OK.

Glass, seventy degrees? Wow! Not frosty at all- how low are your average winter temps? So nice to see you. :h

                      Nora, Yay! You remembered!

Pauly, I have to go find those pics...might depress me, though, as I always found Axl to be sort of hot.

Mama, you deserve to laze around once in a while! Anyway, you have to psychologically prepare yourself for your return to the land of unknown drama tomorrow.

Kradle, I'm glad the girls were awesome and that you are back in the saddle. I hope you enjoy your upcoming visit.

Dottie, hang in there. What do you have to do to the house?

One Step at a Time - June 2014

Peeps, I cannot believe the sheer amount of grunt labor I was able to accomplish this weekend.

As some of you know, I have been jonesing for a garden for ages. My miniscule yard here in town is shady, so I have only grown herbs here, mostly. Three weeks ago, I removed sod from a 10 X 15 foot area in a nice sunny spot in front of the cabin. That was really back-breaking labor right there! I picked up some boards from Home Depot and made an 8x4 raised bed.

Last Monday, the topsoil I ordered was delivered to the cabin. Friday afternoon, after I arrived at the cabin, I transferred a lot of the soil to the raised bed- I swear, I had NO IDEA that shredded top soil was going to be so heavy. It took a lot to fill that large bed. My clothes were plastered to me in a few minutes, as if I'd showered in them.

I did my best to spread the rest of the soil out evenly, but it was clear that I was going to have to continue that part of the project on Saturday.

Got up early on Saturday, had breakfast and headed out to Governor Dodge park. I thought I'd get my hike in early, plus I was hoping to find the last of the ramps and morels. Nada. Went to Farm and Fleet after the hike to pick up my solar electric fence and some wiring, plus more poultry fencing. Went to Walmart and picked up four different tomato plants, jalapeno plants, basil and rosemary for the raised bed.

I finished up smoothing out the soil, then I wrangled the massive roll (100 ft.) of welded wire fencing around all the posts. Exhausting. Very hard work. I am going to be fifty-three in a few days and it's become apparent that I am not as strong as I used to be! Anyway, got the fencing up and then planted my toms and herbs. Planted two rows of carrots, covered them with bird netting, and called it a day.

Weather permitting, I will go out for the day on Tuesday. I will dig a two foot deep trench around the garden and install the poultry fencing to keep out digging critters. Then, I will lay down weed barrier fabric and install the electric (solar) fence. The area is full of raccoons and bunnies, so it will be necessary. I am thrilled, though...if this works out, I will be able to can all sorts of good stuff for the winter. I want to make pickles, can some tomatoes...I am planting corn, so I could freeze some of that.

fen there are just lots and lost of little things. cracks in the foundation wall that are not structural that we need to patch and paint. Front steps the same thing. Missing shutters so have to replace them. Tile in bath and kitchen need to be cleaned and fixed. And the list goes on..my dad didnt understand the concept of maintenance.
Tomorrow we go to the gym and maybe to Costco. Tuesday will be at the house all day.
Friday have a fellow coming to re-glaze the tub and replace the rotten garage door. Need to get contractor back to fix a few things too. Goal is to have on the market before my birthday on the 16th.

Dottie, are the foundation cracks on the inside or outside? Sounds like you have your work cut out for you. How old is the house? Are you experienced with cleaning/sealing bathroom tile? The sealer can be a bit noxious smelling. If you have the $, I would advise to have a handy-guy do the bulk of the work.

We are only a few days apart, birthday-wise. :h
