Anyone interviewing for a job is perfectly allowed to ask about pay. That should be part of the process. I have done this so many times. You DID NOT f$%^ up. You are allowed to ask. I feel strongly about this. You DID NOT make a mistake!

Sounds to me like you've got the job; start date etc., and like Mags said, you're allowed to ask about your pay. That's the reason most people have a job.

Agree with Pops, of course you must ask how much your salary will be. You are not doing charity work.
