    MWO problems log

    Samstone;1685888 wrote: Hello all,
when I first joined I decided to subscribe, thought it cheaper than what I spent on booze. I am not a long termer in the sense that many of you here are. I have found this site a godsend and glad to be supporting it and appreciate the diversity of folks here. If there is a complaint I have, it really revolves around the lack of communication when there are crisis. Spammers, logging on. These have taken a concerted effort to get responses. I know I'm walking on thin ice here. I don't wish to appear ungrateful because I know this is all volunteer work. I think it is in everybody's interest to be informed of what it would take. We all took a poll and really have not heard much since then of what it is going to take. I am more than willing to help but can't help an unknown.
    Sam

Agreed Sam - it is in everybody's interest to be informed of what it would take.
    - I for one am not complaining for the sake of it.
We have asked numerous times - WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO ?
    With no response.
Subscribe - to who - to what ?

All we wanted was clear problem statement and then instructions as to what was needed to solve the issue.
This thread was to highlight what was happening.
It has had the desired effect in that the OWNER of the site has responded and we can now come to some 'rational' decisions.

I do not need to be preached at and accused of bitching - serves no purpose and is petty.
So when RJ confirms the best way forward
    - that is the road I'll be taking.

Zen and Rusty, When NoSugar contacted support they weren't aware of any issues. She started this thread as a central location for gathering info about support issues. It wasn't a complaining thread but an informational thread for RJ.

At some point, you borrowed to do so because you felt strongly that doing otherwise meant abandoning it. At one point you found yourself at a critical juncture.

That's where we're at. That's where I'm at. I understand the frustration--trust me--but I will be frank and tell you it is disheartening to hear a lot of negative feedback when others have been generous in their support.

I will be asking all of you in the near future to help us identify potential advertisers and perhaps we can work together, in a positive way, to get us over this hump.

        RJ

        Hi Roberta and fellow members:

I am reposting RJ post again because I think it is important for me (and maybe others) to consider what she is saying -again.

        IN SUMMARY:

        (1) "Yep, we're having technical issues, but do not currently have the funding to fix all of them." RJ

        (2) "We are working on (the site problems) it best we can and are early into our advertising efforts."

RJ -As an initial-first-immediate effort to resolve the financial situation, were any other thoughts placed on the table -other than or in addition to advertising?

        (3) "We've not have yet generated adequate revenue but we hope that will change in the next few months."

        (4) "Imagine for a moment you donated each month to a cause you felt worthy, but you struggled to collect the funds to make that donation. At some point, you borrowed to do so because you felt strongly that doing otherwise meant abandoning it. At one point you found yourself at a critical juncture."
RJ -Again, if I am interpreting this correctly, the site in its entirety is now costing you more money to operate than it is generating in revenues? In fact, you have personally been so passionate about its continuance that you have injected your own resources -just to keep it afloat. For me, I guess I just never understood this to be a situation until now. I only assumed that the traffic from the forum was helping generate great traffic for the sales of your products.(5)

        (5) "That's where we're at. That's where I'm at. I understand the frustration--trust me--but I will be frank and tell you it is disheartening to hear a lot of negative feedback when others have been generous in their support."

RJ -Perhaps I don't understand this comment in the way that you have intended it be understood. I do believe that there are many-many members that appreciate the efforts of you and your volunteers to keep the site going forward. Unfortunately, I also believe that there are members that are 'assuming' you are getting rich on your products and feel as though they "entitled" to something from this board. Who knows?

        (6) "I will be asking all of you in the near future to help us identify potential advertisers and perhaps we can work together, in a positive way, to get us over this hump."

RJ -I can only speak for myself, but from what I have read and understand from others, those in recovery, recovered, or otherwise, are very grateful for this forum and the ability read, write, or post. Even former active members occasionally drop in to say hello and to reiterate how this forum helped saved their lives. I think the majority of members will act in a positive way -beyond what you may envision now.

RJ -In my opinion, communication to our community is the single most important step you folks can make to not only help you move forward but for the forum as well. There does seem to be a unity that exists -unlike few others that I know on other sites. What concerns me the most is that with too many future hiccups with future "site vandals" will eventually lead many to give up the site and move on.

        Thank you again.

I understand, Ginger. I'm glad NS started this thread. She is someone I very much like and admire on this site.

Spirit...thank you for reposting RJ's response, with your sound suggestions as well. I appreciate it.

Had to reboot twice to get the MWO site to load
            from 5.45am - 6.30 GMT.

Again I'll ask RJ to come & tell us what she needs us from the members here - even an interim fix until the advertising revenue kicks in ?

Ginger, I understand (and support) why NoSugar started the thread. Thank you, NoSugar!

I agree with Sam's comments and appreciate Spirit's input. We are all on the same page.

I suspect RJ probably can't keep throwing money at the site and some people are complaining about the "service"... which is free for them and at her expense.

This thread is very useful for troubleshooting the issues.

NE... I think River Pharmacy closed it's doors for a while. It seems to be back as RiverPharmacy.ca now. I remember it being Riverpharmacy-dot-net or dot-com.

In any event, I will be happy to contribute what I can. I'm not rich but I will chip in, whether it's money or any service I can help with. It would be sad for us to lose this place.

p.s. I agree with Satz also... it would be best if the members are given clear instructions on what we can do to help.

Our friend Nelz is looking into the costs of a V Bullitin site (this thingo we talk on) and it appears it's not as expensive as one would think.

What's everyone's thoughts? I'm not sure why this site gets spammed and has server issues but it seems one could have a "clean" site without adverts for a reasonable price.

Hmmm..... well... I'm told it costs $300 to set up a VB site and that will keep it running for 3 years. And there is a site called phpBB.com that seems to be free.

                    Again... thoughts?

And final info.... (this is from a friend of Nelz I'm talking to on FB). "Hosting runs about $6 a month for support and advanced functions."

OK... there it is. I guess this site does not cost a fortune after all... I stand corrected.
