    Alcoholism-- is it a disease?

Welcome aboard Steve, and I hope you stick around. This place is amazingly supportive!

Paula - Congrats on 4 months AF!

I reckon Nancy's summation is exactly the same as mine, except that she said it a whole lot better than I could have.

      Alcoholism-- is it a disease?

Right now, alcohol is a choice for me. One I keep choosing. If I stop, I will not have any physical withdrawals. My choice to continue drinking is purely emotional and psychological. Does this mean that it won't become a disease? I don't know. Alcohol is a dangerous substance and can become addictive. There is history of it in my family. Does that mean I am pre-disposed? The hell if I know. All I know is how good I feel when I drink it and how crappy I feel right now because I drank it last night. I know that I know people who can not quit because physically they get sick if they try. I have seen people drink themselves to death - more than one. Call it what you want - it has a power over me that pisses me off.
