One Step at a Time - September 2014
I will start off this month with some positive news.
Our home has been deluged with people looking for brochures concerning the sale of the house...so, I hope that we will sell it quickly. It does not go up on the market until Tuesday, although the sign is in the ground.
The seller's realtor from two blocks up the street called our realtor and wanted to know our listing price. She is obligated to reveal that information, so she did. We are asking nearly 100,000 less than the house up the block- we did think it was pretty ballsy to ask for nearly half a million dollars for a home that has no garage, or parking of any type (home up the street). The house up the street has 200 more square feet than ours, and sky-lights...but, that does not account for that much more of an asking price! I predict that their listing price will go down dramatically.
Anyway, I hope that this place will go soon...we only helped it, and did no harm. In our tenure here, we re-wired (old wiring was knob and tube), insulated, painted, remodeled bathrooms, replaced kitchen ceiling, replaced windows, put on a new roof, brought electricity out to the garage, poured a concrete floor in garage, put in automatic opening doors in garage, poured concrete driveway, just repainted AGAIN...the place has been meticulously maintained.

Hello luvvies! Thanks for starting the thread Nora :h and I hope it will be a good September for all... XXX
I haven't read back on the last thread, apologies.
I just finished packing... we fly to Glasgow in the a.m. Currently warming up in bed with the electric blanket...brr. I spent the day cleaning, changing beds, doing laundry, checking my uncle's house... then we went visiting to a couple of my family's abodes. We'll head to Edinburgh from Glasgow tomorrow, and stay here... Braid Hills Hotel*•*Edinburgh Hotels : BEST WESTERN Edinburgh Braid Hills Hotel ... We're having dinner at one of my cousins (think I mentioned that already). Tuesday we head back to Glasgow and hook up with another cousin... by this point I will have seen 7 out of 9 of my first cousins this trip (the other two... one is in Oz and the other in England). Jim is as sad as I am to be leaving the island tomorrow. He thinks my family are a great support system for each other, and I agree. I appreciate my peeps... :h
The hire car literally froze up on me on Saturday night as I was leaving the "metropolis" of Stornoway... I lost power steering, the lot, couldn't even turn the wheel. It re-started but I've been VERY wary of it since. I'll tell them about it tomorrow (they're not in the office on a Sunday) so it won't cause an accident for someone. If we'd been coming round a bend on one of our wee roads (think driveway!) with a sheer drop it could have been a disaster.
My friend's son showed the guys how to weave Harris Tweed last night... it's very complicated and has to be done without a motor to be authentic... it's all "leg power". My uncle used to weave and I made pocket money filling the bobbins for him when I was a little girl.
I'm really tired... going to turn the lights out and get some much needed Z's. It's after 2 a.m. here... darn packing! Jack wouldn't get out of my suitcase so I'll blame it on him.
I'll try check in before we fly back to the USA. Take care. :l

Fenny... it sounds to me like your future Buyer will get a great piece of property at a very fair price... I reckon it WILL sell quickly. It's always nerve wracking though! I haven't moved since 2005... my longest tenure in any house as an adult.
Good luck with it when it goes on the market officially... X

Evening all,
I am reflecting back on last year this time. I was in the hospital after surviving multiple pulmonary embolisms, (blood clots in both my lungs). By everything I have read since I should not be here writing this. But I am and I was discharged on Sept 1st and decided my life had to change. The docs had and still have NO clue what caused the clots but here I am. One year later and stronger and more healthy than one year ago. I am blessed to be here and so happy to be here with all you wonderful folks....I so enjoy learning about all your lives and sharing the ups and downs of what we live with every day. Thanks so much to all of you for being here and encouraging me.
Life is really good...

Good morning steppers!
Nora, I love your start of the month pic, it's very inspiring.
Sunny, sorry I made you shrivel up inside! My sober September suggestion was actually addressed to mama cos she said she wanted to get 30 days under her belt after the party. I would have shrivelled up inside too.
As for the culture in the uk, well for most adults here drinking is a way of life. Booze is everywhere......on the tv, the radio, in the print media....you get the idea. The social pressure to drink is enormous. The majority of shops that sell food also sell booze. Supermarkets typically have multiple aisles devoted to alcohol. Even the petrol/gas stations sell drink. There's just no escaping from it.
Pauly, nora, what is a stepper blankie fort?!!
Fenny, best of luck with selling the house, I hope it goes quickly. Everything about what is happening sounds very promising and encouraging so far.
Zenny, yikes about the car!! :egad: Enjoy the rest of your trip.
Dotts, you are indeed a miracle. Was it the pulmonary embolisms that prompted you to give up drinking? You seem to be doing really well!
:hallo: tmh, kradle.
Happy September to all

Good Morning, Steppers,
Fen::l So sorry to hear about your cousin. She was lucky to have such a loving cousin like you:l.
Dottie-Isn't today your 1 year AF anniversary??? Let me know if I can start a new thread for you!:goodjob:
Work to do on this fitting Labor Day....a walk on the lake path with a close friend and then I invited some friends over for munchies later this afternoon.
I hope everyone here has a lovely holiday....although it's not a holiday for you, Recluse. Happy Monday to you.
Back later.

HAPPY ONE YEAR Dottie!!!!!!!
Fen. You heartbreak is palpable in your writing. Do you have siblings that can help with your Moms plans? I can't remember. That would help. You know you have us and of course, Mrs Fen.
I am just lazing around this morning. It's nice. And yes Sun, some of us do survive cancer. On 9/11, I will celebrate 12 years cancer free. And yes, it was THE 9/11 that I had my first chemo.
Safe travels Zen and I wouldn't be surprised if Jack the Cat come home with you.
Al check ..... None yesterday. Hubs had three at his moms and just try to ignore it. He says I am the one with a problem, not him. It sounds cruel when I say it like that, but he has always been a social drinker, so I guess I have to sort this out myself.
Beloved Mr Bear, when we Steppers get overwhelmed, we have joked in the past that we want to build blanket forts like when we were children and hide....
TMH - enjoy your golf. I ordered "A Man called Ove", as well.
Fen- I am so , so sorry and I am glad your course passed peacefully. Pop did too. I like to think we walk into the arms of loved ones and pets we have lost.
I love you allI love my family more than alcohol.:h
Live in the Solution....not the problem
