Sometimes when I am tramping around in the woods, I find a friend!

There is a sort of peace that can only be attained by being out in nature...I worry about our wild places going away. How can we be happy without them?

Here is a photo of a waterfall in the park near my cabin.

For those unfamiliar with the different 'possum types...here is the unfortunate American Opossum. Note the murderous glare and homely appearance.

Here is the terminally cute Oz 'Possum.

You just wanna pick it up and kiss it between its little ears!

I recognize the top critter, I think he was in my backyard the other night. I had to close the dog door cuz I think he was after the dogfood. I actually thought he was kinda cute, despite the murderous/demonic look in his eye. LOL

Yep, looks like the American opossum might even try to eat it's Aussie cousin if given the chance. ... where I live in North Carolina, the American opossum is the #1 road kill creature by far, I believe mainly because they eat many other road kill items at night, as disgusting as that seems. OK, sorry for that segue…

K9, I do think our possums are kind of cute. They're more scaredy cat than bad-ass, really.

STL, possums are over-represented in Wisconsin's road-kill stats, too. I never thought about them maybe chewing on other road kill- I always wondered why they were in the road all the time!

Yes Fenny, thank you for starting a thread that lead to the possum-as-roadkill topic. LOL

While we're still on possums, this is a test of posting pictures. Here's one that used to bring her baby for dinner in my last house.

Oz is so ginormous, we're going to get one of those Aussie air pass deals, so we can skitter all over the nation.

That possum is SO CUTE! How did she get into your house?

                            :happy2:

My birch maiden has shed her fall frock and is naked. I will post a pic later this weekend.
