Understanding the Impact of Addiction on Others

I hope it's okay to post this link to an article my friend, Sharron, wrote about her experience with addiction.
She tells the story of addiction, from the point of view of a mother that was naive and unaware of how strong addiction is. She bravely shares the story of how her middle son became addicted to drugs and alcohol, and the 15 years of hell they endured before he finally was strong enough to stay clean and sober.

I met them in 2010 as they fought as a family to help their son. Sometimes we (those that have addictions) forget how our actions impact those that love us.

Oh wow - that is a great story. Gave me goosebumps.

I am the mother of a recovered heroin and cocaine addict. He has been clean for 6 years. The pain described in this post is all too real.

That is also one of the reasons I will stay AF. I started to see myself the same. I was disgusted with myself to slip to this level after all our family has gone through with our son.

    Thank you for sharing.
