    Doctors/Topa/Country/State

I was just curious about this subject. Some of us seem to get Topa no problem, even encouragement from our physicians. Others get the big NO WAY. I don't understand the reluctance of any physician to help a patient with something so simple as a prescription if it meant someone was attempting to moderate or quit drinking !!!

I live in Minnesota in the Cities. I mentioned on another chat that I went to my first doc, got shot down immediately!

Went to doc number two who was an ob/gyn, she started me out but no refills, yesterday went to a general practitioner, she also freaked out about the drug! But reluctantly gave me two months worth under the condition I go to a neuro doc for a consult and for further refills. She did say that doc would probably just send me back to her for continued refills.

The first thing she did was look up the side effects on her computer. Not the good things the drug did and the studies that showed the positive but all the extremely bad things that MAY happen. Well excuse me but everything has side effects, tylenol has side effects! GRRRRR

I told her I was feeling just fine the past few weeks, that I had no side effects and if I had started to feel any I would call her immediately but she seem to blow me off?

If anyone has read previous entries of mine you may remember I have been on a few anti depressants and they had MANY severe, severe side effects and infact I experienced them and twice was given the same drug, so where is the caution there!? Sorry, now I'm just ranting.

Bottom line is if this drug would really help us all stop or moderate our drinking they should be giving it out like candy not stopping us from getting the help we need! They are handing out things to help people perform better sexually, feel happier, sleep better, not have their tummy hurt, and be able to have ice cream on a daily basis but GOD forbid you curb your craving for BOOZE!

    Okay I feel better! :d

I agree! And we need a list. I contacted the NIAA to ask for a list of members so that I could at least start one for the U.S., but all I received was a surly one liner "we don't keep list's of doctors", which we all know is bs...hmmm, since I'm in the DC area, maybe I should lobby?? Lol...Next step, contact the pharmaceutical manufacturer and try to talk to them I guess...they give all sorts of incentives!:evil

Yes, if we can just get this past the FDA and the topa manufacturers will be throwing luncheons for the docs and then they will be handing it out like candy!!! "Oh, you have 3 glasses of wine a day, Mr. Smith? Let's try to make it 2!! Here's a scrip for some topa!!!"

I got Topa with no problem--I had topa before I even found this site because my psychiatrist is in DC. (Neither of us knew the right way to use it though, so it didn't help!:rollin )But I am so pissed off for everyone else who can't get it, either here or around the world!>: >: >:

Okay, I'm done with my rant.
