Whew... Thank you to who got me to this page!!!

I read the book today and ordered all the supplements. I am no stranger to nutrition, nutritional supplements, vitamin deficiences, and so forth. I am just new to admitting that I am an alcoholic after 15 years of putting myself to sleep with one and a half to 2 bottles of vintage wine (it has to be delicious) every single night. I could privately check in anywhere with what I pay for wine alone, but I don't like discussing my issues with "professionals" with pre-conceived notions. Here is my BIG question:
Who has had success and what is the success level of becoming AF or a "social drinker" without the use of Topamax? I have some severe nerve damage issues that have been treated with Neurontin and Lyrica. I had terrible reactions with no relief for the pain. Topamax is just another drug in that category and I do not want to go down that road again!!! My neurologists even recommended wine for the pain. UGH.
I am hoping the Kudzu supplement and L-Glut with Mg and B's will do it for me. However, I would like some frank responses regarding the necessity of Topamax. I am not looking for pain relief, just freedom from a wine cellar and a decreasing interest in life. I have no children and no family. However, I do have a healthy habit of training working dogs and physically train myself every day. My wine consumption does not intefere with this and I have never suffered any negative consequences from my wine consumption. Unless you include being a social recluse a consequence -- but I have always been a social recluse.
Please weigh in on the benefits of Topamax for success vs. the holistic way. Rhonda's book made me feel like I would fail without it.
Thank you all in advance. If I sound like an idiot, I just started my second bottle of Sauvingon Blanc to put me to sleep. I cannot take Melatonin as it causes disastrous sleepwalking for me... take it to sleep stone cold sober and wake up questioning the police outside my home... Melatonin is a disaster drug for me!

    Hi Wine9999,
I've been sober for well over a year and didn't use anything to quit except lots of time here. I can't say it was easy but I got it done. I did take L-gut once in a while for the sugar cravings that come along when you quit drinking AL. My advice would be to stay close and engaged. Hope others chime in that have more experience with the meds.

Hello. I tried Topa for several months and stopped due to it impacting my training. I am a recently retired triathlete. I was losing muscle and mental focus on that med. I gave up racing for biking and my love...hiking. I am fanatical about health and nutrition. Read all you can. Take all the key supplements. Get active outdoors. Remove ALL sugars from your diet. Take that alcohol thing and kick it right in its ass. I am now alcohol free for going on 5 & 1/2 years. It was PTSD that took me down the alcoholics path. Best of luck. Questions? Just ask!
