I'm in on this thread but have two back to back vacays so may be away from some of the threads for a couple of weeks. Definitely will be on board mid September. Thanks for starting this!

Thanks Pauly!! I didn't end up eating everything in the fridge! I cut up two tomatoes, some cheese and a can of tuna and ate that instead...healthy enough, right? Although I am pretty ravenous right now. :/
Ohhh...now you've done it! Now I want a chocolate chip muffin!! LOL!! I get coffee every morning from a coffee shop in Canada here called Tim Horton's....and they have thee best muffins...although I saw the other day that one has 450 calories!!! :'( :O Lol.

I think I did fairly well today as well. I had a smoothie for breakfast...and then mid-morning (spinach, apple, nectarine, pineapple, celery, cucumber, ginger, radish, avocado, lemon slices with skin, bee pollen, maca powder, chia seeds and hemp seeds, spirulina and mix it all with water) - yea I know that sounds extreme...and then for lunch I had this new potato salad over spinach with candied salmon (SO GOOD!) but a small portion...and then for dinner I had that tomato thing...I know...actually, looking back that's not a lot...but I am still not losing weight.

Had major thunderstorm last night & 4" of rain in 1 hr. Needless to say, canceled out of golf. Course open but cart path only. Don't mind getting the extra steps, but we all decided we would be a muddy mess. So now I have this gift of time. How am I going to spend it? Heading to Fitness Center, going to add some machines like ET and Rowing to change things up a bit. Then I am going to tackle my huge stack or 2 or 3 of paper clutter.

Weight is up again. Starting to seriously work on that today. Hope everyone has a good Thursday! Let's kick some butt!

                    Hello Everyone-

It is nice to see others making their health a priority. I ignored mine for years and as a result need to lose about 40 pounds. After giving up alcohol I craved junk food for about 3-4 weeks-especially crappy carbs. I have finally changed my diet and am exercising 5-6 days a week. I would much rather do weight bearing/strength exercises than cardio but I am trying to balance the two. I have found if I listen to a Podcast like the Bubble Hour while I do cardio it is much more bearable. Also, I have been trying to do shorter, more intense boughts of cardio.

Bri-you should get a Fitbit. Doing competitions with friends is a great way to get extra steps in. Have you tried Kind Bars? They make a dark chocolate peanut butter one that is awesome. The bars are minimally processed and don't have 5 million ingredients like some of the others out there. Just a thought to keep those Reese's on the shelves.

Tomorrow is going to be rough food wise. I am going to the PNE in Vancouver (basically a big fair). They have many food items that we don't get in the states. I know I will cave in on the poutine but will try to limit my portion. That stuff has got to be the most delicious pile of un nutritious food there is. I will compensate by trying to double my steps.

Off to the gym. Have a healthy day everyone!

What a nice day! It was just what I needed. Have been anxious lately, not hitting on all cylinders, really out of sorts.
Lifted wts yest so started workout on Elliptical. Did 100 cal worth, then 50 cal on Row machine, then ran/walked 2.5 miles. Made big dent in basket of paper clutter. Spent hours. So when today's mail arrived I handled every piece, need to establish that good habit.
It will easily be over a 14K step day. Yay!
                        Have a great night!

Added incentive not to drink  :

Alcohol inhibits the operation of glucagon. Hence, when you drink alcohol, as your blood glucose level naturally falls over time, your body calls upon glucagon to break down body fat to access some glucose, but the alcohol has impaired the functioning of glucagon. Hence glucagon cannot break down body fat to elevate blood glucose levels. This has a double whammy effect on weight: a) your body can't break down body fat – so this stops you losing weight in and of itself and b) your blood glucose level stays below normal and you body perceives this as a serious threat to health so it does whatever it can to make you eat. This is why you get the munchies on drink night and this is why that kebab van only ever looks attractive when you're somewhat inebriated.

Alcohol is not to be feared as a dieter for the calories that it contains but for the fundamental impact that it has on breaking down body fat and craving food.

It seems like my blood sugar is always messed up even without alcohol but I know that the sweets I eat, caffeine, nicotine etc all mess with it too

Hey everyone! So glad we are checking in here!
Jackie ~ I hate cardio too. GAH!! Yesterday I did 20 minutes on the stair master and thought I would cry! Lol. But am not a fan of any of those cardio machines.
I know it's good for cardiovascular health but don't feel like it's essential for weight loss. Not for me anyways when I lost 50lbs last year. I did mostly body-weight and weight training. Body-weight exercise can increase heart rate too so it's like cardio.
I would recommend you check out sites like: Tone It Up, Zuzka Light or even BodyRock.tv/The Daily Hiit. They have a lot of videos of workouts.
Also, HIIT is where it's at. Not this monotonous 45 minute elliptical or treadmill session. Oftentimes people only ever do 20 min cardio.

Now, I was looking at FitBits. I don't know if I want that or a Polar Watch. Anyone have any advice? I am leaving more towards the FitBit Flex because of the size...I don't need the upgraded ones and I find they are so much bulkier which I don't like.
The Flex is $120 and then I saw the Polar for around $70. Maybe get both as a 30day gift to myself? Hehehe.
I will also definitely check out those Kind Bars. Thanks! I love dark chocolate. Especially while drinking tea! Although they do say doing both is a no no but it's better then AL!

Well...weighed in at 152. That's about a 2.6lb loss a week ago today. Not impressed. But it's better then nothing. Or gaining.
It's just frustrating. Because I've been eating a strictly protein, veg (and some fruit) diet and barely any carbs, working my ass off at the gym every day and then this?? Like?!
What's worse is that I am going out with a friend tonight....all you can eat buffet.
This is going to be so dangerous.
It's $30 too!! So I feel like I better freaking get my meals worth!! I would prefer to go elsewhere but my gf has her heart set on this place.
                              Ugh. Wish me luck!!

                              Bri.

Ps. On another note. I joined a new gym! I love this new spot since my last gym was a disgrace! Lol. Can't wait to pump iron.
