    Roommate from hell

I rented a room to a lady that is turning into a monster. She never cleans after her self, leaves dirty dishes in the sink and she just did the unthinkable. She moved a stray puppy she found on the street in, that she keeps caged up in her room without access to food or water for long hours. I have asked her to move as the complex does not allow pets, she won't budge and basically says I need to legally evict her which is a time consuming, bureaucratic process which I don't think is going to work due to the serious neglect this pet is in. Iam not an animal person but it's heartbreaking to see what people who claim to love animals are capable of doing to helpless animals. I have called animal control but no one has shown up. Been waiting 4 hrs. Feeling extremely frustrated. Tomorrow I start getting charged $25 a day for an unauthorized pet which is not phazing her as she's not on the lease. I know this is not related to drinking but I had to voice my frustration somewhere. Pat on the shoulder to moi, I haven't even given alcohol a thought in spite of the turmoil I have been in since this started. The old me would be finding solace in vodka and beer. At a loss right now

Hang in there. I hate crating animals!!!! Wow. I just don't have much advice on this, but I'm glad you aren't drinking. And that you can come here to vent!

Did you have her sign a sublease? I would start the eviction process today! And I would go in her room and rescue the puppy and take him to the humane society. I would document everything and take pictures in case she tries to call the police on you. Good luck and I hope you are able to rescue the dog and kick her out. Shame on her!

This sounds like a nightmare but definitely something to handle rather than drinking over. Good for you for keeping your sobriety.
I think it would be wise to get her out immediately she doesn't deserve to be there another day. I would Google tenant/subtenant protocol for eviction in your state because each varies. There are also local tenant groups you can call for advice/mediation and if you and your landlord have a good relationship, see if he/she can possibly help.
Good luck and keep us posted on what happens.
Oh and one more thing, remember, this too shall pass.

          Liz,

Do you have a rapport with your landlord as he/she can serve an eviction notice to her as she didn't sign a lease with him so she is an unauthorized tenant. I am an animal lover so I would definitely give the poor thing food and water if she isn't doing so. Major stressors like this challenge us for sure, but hang in there. Don't let it become your excuse to drink. Hang tough.

Thanks all for your well wishes. The nightmare continues. Its mind baffling how callous and utterly insensitive people can be. I still feed the little fella and change his cage before going to work. We're both victims of a very sadistic person. I pleaded with her to give him up because even if she moves as she getting ready to, his circumstances won't change. Animal control said they'll give her time to rectify the problem before they take him and iam jaded from all this so I'll just wait and see as the law is protecting her. Forget me who is being forced to live with her stinky self and the dog. Little Bittle, yes I hate caged animals too that's why I don't have one
Red67, we never signed a lease agreement but everything is documented on email. She did call the cops as she felt "threatened" when I told her that I was calling animal control. The cop said I have to go to court to get both of them out.
Lostsoul, the complex is one of those strictly by the book type. She took her dumb self there to find out whether she can stay with her puppy, in essence letting them know that the an authorized pet was staying there. They started adding $25 aday until he moves out. Iam at her mercy as to whether she chooses to pay or not. You right, it will pass and God doesn't like ugly.
Addy, Iam doing the best I can but I only have table food...don't know anything about animals. I give him water, chicken and hotdogs. Jus heartbreaking to see how he hungrily he eats the food.
Still no thoughts of drinking but my gym routine is definitely taking a hit. I haven't worked out in a week...scary because I don't want to work out...so not me.

hey Lizker- i think you did the right thing by calling animal control. Keep them informed of the situation, they will get sick of you and do something about it.
i am an animal person and i agree humans do weird unbelievable crap to defenseless creatures. Good you call Animal Control and awesome you are staying in control of the situation. Regardless of how you might see it, you are in control. Good girl!!
