oh bella i identify with you i was 38 when i had my youngest and insisted on an amnio i refused the afp test could it could only give statistics my mum was horrified as a devout catholic and said i should not have the test then my mum died very suddenly on the saturday before i had the test i was devastted then when i went for the test the consultant was away and a junior dr was doing it she panicked as i work on nicu and made a total hash and couldnt get a sample this is NOT the test you are having anyway i was convinced my mum had engineered it and the baby must have some problem anyway everything was fine the baby was fine and i was stupid you will be fine as i say i work on nicu and there are very few problems with hate to say this older mothers actually i dont think 39 is older these days 45 seems a common age please dont worry

I can only imagine how you are feeling and your anxiety about the baby. Under the best of circumstances being pregnant can be scary!!

Try to focus on the fact that many, many healthy babies are born every day to people who smoke, drink, do drugs, etc during their entire pregnancy, despite the odds.

At least you are trying very hard to make sure you do the best you can for your little one!!

Take care of yourself and I send much heartfelt luck and prayers your way.

Bella, i drank too in the beginning of both my pregnancies before i knew i was pregnant and worried a lot but everything turned out ok. i don't know if that makes you feel any better. also i know lots of people who had kids around 39-40, all healthy babies and even one friend who had a healthy baby at 46. just tryin to give you positive vibes and i'll be sending you them at the time of your test, too, along with all the others.
