Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...
Another 24 hours please & thank you.
We’re just back from Mrs QW’s annual meeting with her neurologist and again this year, it was all of 10 minutes long. Would have been shorter than that had we not asked questions. After, I commented to Mrs QW that some might say this doc has the personality of last years sneakers. Not me, but some might.
We both agreed that it was essentially a waste of time.
We’re finally getting some much needed rain. I feel bad for the farmers who have lost their crops due to drought. This rain would have helped 2 months ago.
Have a great af Tuesday everyone.

Morning all!!
techie, I'd love to hear more about your covid diagnosis.
BigAl, your wreck must have been terrible! Hoping you're on the mend soon.
Congrats on the new adventure, jude. Hope it works out for you!
Waves to all. Happy to still be on the WA coast. There's a big fire in the mountains above our home. The air quality in our valley is abysmal. I feel so bad for all that must stay in the smoke and hoping that the firefighters stay safe. 24 more, please!

We should finish up the barley today, then we’ll go back to peas and try and finish up the 5 quarters of those, then it’ll be 2 quarters of oats with the balance being wheat and canola. Most of the corn seeded up here BigAl is left standing to turn cows into for feed over the winter, although some farmers harvest it.
My sleep pattern has been all over this harvest and I’m not sure why. I haven’t had a decent night sleep since harvest started but hopefully that will improve as harvest continues.
Good on you for quitting work completely Jude58! I hear you on loving your job but not the consequences of it. I love what I do, but am finding it more and more difficult to get enthusiastic about going to work. I can see just seeding and harvest as my only work in the near future!
Nice to get your son and g-kids closer to you dill, lots more visiting for you in the future!
Enjoy your time with your g-kids Rava and hope you’re having a great time out on the coast Ginger999!
At least you guys found out the cause of the symptoms you were experiencing techie, and yes, we must keep our guard up on this crazy virus!
Sometimes I wonder about these medical specialists Quit wining! They want twice yearly assessment visits visits that last about ten minutes and don’t seem to accomplish anything except they get to bill Health Services huge money!Last edited by abcowboy; August 18, 2021, 07:02 AM.Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...
Good evening Cafe Friends. Slowly recovering, sleep has been difficult just because of the back pain. I tend to just make a 90 degree roll every 30 minutes or so all night long. A painful 90 degree roll. I can tell that the back will be the long pole in the tent. It will continue to hurt for quite a while after everything else has healed up.
Sober day today, lots of little niggling work issues to deal with. So much so that I really didn't get anything done that needed doing.
Anyway, looking forward to easing into bed and reading my current book (Anathem by Neal Stephenson if interested). My wife is mowing the lawn tonight, first time in two years that i haven't mowed the lawn, but without grossing everybody out, the top of my left foot evidently drug under my motorcycle as it did it's thing and it's an absolute mess. Let's put it this way, were I to get a pedicure, I would get a 50% discount.
24 more for me please and thanks, and I appreciate the thoughts and positive energy from the group.

Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...
Last night we had 3" of rain over a 2 hour period, and it's still coming down! There is a state of emergency in many of the towns near me, and our road is closed due to the flooding. It's a good thing that I don't have to work today because it's unlikely that I'd be able to get there without a boat! Sure wish that I could send some of this rain to those that need it!
I'm in for another soggy 24 hours.

Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...
We only got a half inch of the rain, Jude. We didn't need rain and I too wish we could share.
Cowboy, I started losing interest in going to work and felt lucky that I was nearing retirement age when then started happening. I loved my job for so many years and I felt that students deserve their teachers and therapists (in my case, speech/language) to bring enthusiasm, expertise, and sincerity to their assignments. When mine began to wane I knew it was time for me to step aside. Keep doing the parts you enjoy!
BigAl, you have a lot of healing to do! Is Mrs. BA doing the lawn with a push mower or riding? How much lawn are we talking? Ours is done in under 2 hours but with both of us working. We have two lawn tractors. Mr. D keeps them going no matter how long ago we bought them! LOL The one I use is going on 20 years! It's a John Deer. We have a Yard Man that is 30 yo but we don't use it much anymore.
Waves to Rava, Ginger, Pauly, Techie, and QW!
24 more please and thank you.Dill

Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...
Another 24 hours please & thank you.
Jude, retirement is the best job ever! And Cowboy, good for you to “keep the best parts”, as Dill says. I found the key is to keep active - mentally & physically - and in my case, volunteering has become an important part of my routine. That plus being there for Mrs QW.
Sad news yesterday, my sister’s ex died from Susac Disease after 19 months of being in a care facility. Even though they were divorced, he remained part of our family and he’ll be missed. He was only 62, had been looking forward to retirement and moving to the cottage he still owned jointly with my sister.
Much cooler this morning and no smoke in the air. Off for a walk.
Have a great af Wednesday everyone!

Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...
QW, I had to look up Susac. I'd never heard of it. Sounds just awful. Sorry for your loss.
Rain? What's that? Still triple digits back home with tons of smoke. Glad we aren't there!
Greetings to everyone! 24 more!

Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...
Good morning Cafe friends and exuberant retirees. Condolences to your family, QW. Well, I’m golfing again today w/ a sore right arm. I got the booster jab yesterday. My doctor encouraged me to get the third Moderna vaccination due to history of cancer and being an asthmatic. Not sure I did the right thing but it is done. I had a call yesterday from two (via zoom) former colleagues whom I worked with in London during the late 90’s. I was with a huge telecom @ that time. While that particular project was ultimately a train wreck, the relationships I made were solid and meaningful. However, flying weekly from San Francisco was the most difficult time in my life with a young daughter at home. So, my point here is, embrace retirement and make it fun. The only writing experience I had was a few corporate white papers. Dual tunneling VPN is not an exciting topic, hahah. The point is, I can write and I’m making a few bucks in the process. Well, enough bloviating. I’m all in for another XXIV. I wish you all the best day possible.

Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...
Good evening Cafe Friends. Had a marathon meeting today. Started at 0800 and finished at almost 6:00 pm. Ugh. But, I'm sober and that's a good thing. Almost no time to spend with my own thoughts today, just surviving. And my back hurts.
dill, we have about an acre that we mow, and it's just a small 21" push mower. I bought a little push mower on purpose because 1) it's good exercise and I'm a little bit of a lawn nazi so I like fertilizers and lush grass. That keeps me mowing every other day to every third day during the spring and early summer. 2) the lawn looks so very good with a push mower as compared to a big deck rider. But, I have a solid week before I will be able to put a shoe or boot on, my foot is mangled. Although I do go get stitches out tomorrow.
QW, very sorry to hear about your loss. I, like Ginger, had to google the ailment and I agree it sounds terrible. My condolences.
Well, I am again looking forward to slipping into bed and getting a good read in. I hope everyone had a wonderful Wednesday. 24 more for me please and thanks.

Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...
QW, so sorry to hear about your sister's ex. So sad that he missed out on retirement, and I guess that it's a good reminder to live every day as though it's your last.
It poured all day yesterday, and it's still coming down hard. we've had close to 5 inches
of rain over the last 2 days which has caused lots of flooding and road closures.
One the the gardens on the lower part of our property is likely going to be a total loss. We have a tomato garden on higher ground, and hopefully, it will be OK.
24 more please...
