6:20am in Alberta, 24 more for me, and everyone else who needs them please, and thanks...

In the past 24 hours, these people have signed in for 24 hours of sobriety:

Great quote LC! How was the hiking anyway?

Good thing I worked construction yesterday, the farm boss called last night and we're going to give the canola a try today to see if it's good to go! I just about got caught up on all my construction work, if only I'd quit taking on more! It's hard to say no to people though when there's a shortage of contractors like there is around here...

There's been some great conversations lately in the Café! I don't always add my two cents, but the variety of topics always makes me stop and think how I feel about them. Carry on gang, keep up the good work!
Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...
Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Just get through today. Tomorrow will look after itself when it becomes today, because today is all we have to think about.
Friendship is not about how many friends you have or who you've known the longest. It's about who walked into your life, said "I'm here for you", and proved it.

When I quit before I used a vaporizer, and got to 0mg. 3 years no smoking. I've tried the sunflower seed trick before also. Cold turkey is fun... wee. When I started Gabapentin all of what I associated with lung issues and post nasal drip went away, so it doesn't seem to be a health crisis anymore :/ So I lost a lot of incentive to quit. The problem I have is where I live smokes are easily accessible and super cheap illegally. 200 smokes (a carton/bag) is 9$ from a native reserve (hit and miss on quality and regulation). Legit smokes are 10$ CAD for 25 which is nearly the same value as Australian Dollar (so twice the price). Will take some determination! Good luck Neo, I'll join you in a bit!
I'll have to get you to send a carton over. Kidding lol. AUD/CAD is around parity so Canadians are paying $20 for 50 compared to our $54 . But then I guess you have to allow for the extra weed when all your neighbours have The Bieber up full blast .So I got somewhat into today without a smoke but having them sitting around is the same as having AL sitting around when doing the first week. So best to Finish, get rid of them and see how we go this week.

Great quotes, Ory and LC! Thanks!
Sunny Sunday morning here
Went to an Oktoberfest here, the second largest outside of Munich. It's traditon, both around here and with my family. I was saddened that I could not find a single AL free beer anywhere. Over 60 different kinds of beer and not one AL free. I think there's a niche to be filled. A friend on another site posted a picture of herself with a liter of AL free beer at Munich.
Sure I was tempted but did not drink, filled my belly with good food instead, lol!
So glad I had not trouble giving up the smokes, quit cold trukey 25 years ago when my son was born.
24 more for me please!

Please - we could all use 24 AF hours. Thank you.

lifechange - Was missing you. Thinking of you this AM. Glad you were out hiking. I also struggle with the past. It tried to pull me in recently. Told it I'm not going there. All it does is make me sad and angry. Two emotions if left unchecked, may lead to poison. More on this later perhaps. Like abcowboy mentioned I like the different topics here.

Mr Vervill - Do find it odd no AF beer at festival. Money to be made. Even NF vapes have become popular. Hopefully, some one sees the opportunity in marketing AF beers and wine. Glad you quit cigs 25 yrs ago. The birth of your son was a great time. Starting day 7 here.

Hoping to get back on later. Hard to type on phone. Wishing everyone a good AF day.

I missed you all!
Germany doesn't have a lot of "wilderness".. nothing compared to North/South America.. but we did manage to find a beautiful area where we were able to get away from the masses.. it's a trail called the Malerweg.. and they call it the Switzerland of Sachsen, which is a bit of a joke.. but it was the first time I was out and about with my girls (12 and 15) on an adventure without a man. Aside from visiting my family, which we always do alone.. I hadn't been alone with them for ages. I feel like this marked the start of something new. We did have to rely on our instincts and follow trails and grit our teeth at times to get to the next destination.
Tonight we're getting ready for the first day back to school tomorrow. I'm grateful that they're both more or less excited..
hugs and peace to you all..
xx

p.s. Mr. V.-- there is always an AF beer solution here.. that surprises me with 60 different sorts that there wouldn't be one..
this summer i was happy to see A LOT of advertising here for alcohol free beer.. showing it as hip and cool not to drink.. from athletes to young college students, etc.. and lots of varieties.. it made me hopeful.

Mr Vervill wow. Yeah there is a niche in that market, but most of the time AF beer or 0.5% are triggers for people (taste like crap) and you'd be shunned in the AA community or from anyone from my rehab clinics for putting yourself in a high risk scenario. It definitely goes to show that over time it wears off and you have resolved your connection. Was it difficult to be around it? Tempted at all?

I've personally found that being sober and off beer or any liquor for lengths of time (months at a time) that the first drink tastes really really funny and almost not palletable as my taste buds have changed. Yet these instances also led to lapses, not full blown relapse. But what I do understand now is that taste buds and therefore scents change so while being a daily user or in relapse phases I can definitely understand that people think you smell like booze when in fact you can't smell it and think you are okay. Oh vodka doesn't smell hah.

I notice a marked difference in the amount of sweat between times of sobriety and times of heavy drinking. I saw a guy at the Toronto Zoo last year, pouring sweat and looking all out of sorts like withdrawal. Was interesting to see and I (maybe mistakenly) assumed he was alcoholic and was there almost against his will and desperately needed a drink (8.50$ for about 355ml 4% bud light in specific parts of the zoo, would take about 150$ for him to mend himself temporarily with the tell tale signs he was exhibiting <- pun). It was a reminder to me of what I didn't want to be like! I can tolerate heat sober and healthy, but not if I was a daily drinker.

What was it like there? Lots of drunk people or just rowdy?

Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...

Interesting topic for the cafe if any of us are using professional therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, medical professionals, cousellor's, specialists. Its legal to claim you are a cousellor here in Ontario without any degree, but not a "social worker'. So people are lying. Some therapists in one of my rehabs fully admitted they were counsellor's without degrees, just experience. But at the same place I am looking up a Masters in Social Work and can't find her registered. Her business card says M.S.W. but also only Counsellor.

Fake degrees. I am having trouble verifying some people I use as medical professionals. (EDIT: All is well on my front, they are registered, but I need to see the schools). Up to 50% of degrees are fake?!

If this isn't geolocked to Canada, google "fake degree" or "diploma mill". CBC TV Not sure if the link will work. Its CBC Marketplace Episode 1 of Season 45. This article about it shouldn't be geolocked. 'All of us can be harmed': Investigation reveals hundreds of Canadians have phoney degrees - Business - CBC News

They focus on one company in Pakistan that operates numerous fake degree websites. The following link is a list of aka schools that they issue fake degrees from. A company called Axact.

The list. List of schools linked to Axact - Marketplace - CBC News

More on this later as I find resources to locate.

So to learn CBT and get registered as a therapist you need a 2 day course. Shoot I can teach you CBT and I can't really identify how exactly a therapist that claims CBT as accredited is any different than me.

Enjoy your Sunday! And 24 hours (and honest professionals!).

A bridge to normal living and that what am doing today .AA has helped me a lot. It give me courage to open my mouth and share. I work hard at my program and grateful for my program everyone works it different. I don't collect my chip coins no more, ever since I slip over 3 years & that's when I realised I need to keep this in the 24hour. I go to aa when I need to go. My partner is one of us he doesn't count days or years we try and keep it in the moment and it works for both of us. I know if he was to replase his liver would be f%#ked. I did once try the af wine , it didn't work for me I relapse because I though to myself what the point might as well drink the real stuff. That how my thinking works.
It interesting reading through all your posts.
Here to another 24hours for me ☺ Enjoying every minute of sobriety.
