Interesting discussion about blood pressure, many years ago I had dangerously high blood pressure. So high in fact my doctor wanted me the go on a very strict vegetarian diet! No meat, only one 4oz. serving of fish per week, no salt, no snacks, no potatoes or pasta, and no beer! Bubba did some research and I started taking Hawthorne berry pills. my blood pressure improved and I didn't change my diet at all, well, except for the no beer lol. It's now usually always around the 120/80 mark. I don't use the Hawthorne anymore and my bp has stayed the same....Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...

Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...
Alcohol can have huge effects blood pressure, as well as triglycerides and cholesterol, from what I read. Not to mention the liver to the liver and pancreas.
Ory, I use massage envy near me, they have certified and registered massage therapists, took a few tries, but the two therapists I use can find my trigger points in seconds flat. Don't know how they do it, as they move around. It's a little painful, but the following day, I feel great. Hope it helps you.
Very busy today, gotta run.
24 more please.

Another 24 please! 8:13 in Calgary.
Eat meat and be happy Cowboy- my mom cut out all the fruit she was eating and reduced her carbs, upped her fat intake by eating more meat, butter, eggs, cheese, coconut oil and her BP came down, leg swelling went down, skin is not so itchy, she has more energy And she is 83 years old.
I eat the same way and it has really made me feel better.

24 more please. Got my pair of dogs so I'm amused. Trimmed some trees properly today. Some people know nothing about how to grow proper trees ."Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid." - Albert Einstein

Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...
Neo, I don't have a val addiction either thankfully over the many years of relapse and recovery. Congrats on keeping it simple. There are 150 5 mg tabs at my disposal over the years in my drawer and its obvious I don't take them unless its after a relapse! Tips are never take it for more than a month, after which it becomes a dependency. I usually only take them for a week after a severe lapse. Thankfully I have lapsed only a couple times in the last couple years unlike my past. Not more than a month at any dose, at least that's what my specialist told me. If you have no serious indications of having seizures my specialist recommends Gabapentin over Valium, depending on the severity of course. Heavy risk Valium, low risk Gabapentin is what I was told. I went behind his back (*rollseyes*) to my GP to get Valium when he wouldn't give me any and only gabapentin after the last relapse. Shady yes, but I just didn't have the faith in Gabapentin being enough. I use Gabapentin daily anyways (900mg) so I know what it does and there is no way I could knock myself out or sedate myself enough with it to get through the first couple days at 44 units. You're at 84 units eh, wow. That's going to take some effort to come down from. I mentioned that measure to my father as I had mentioned before he calculated units in the past to choose my taper and his remark was "You don't realize just how much alcohol is actually in beer".
Its useful to note that Gabapentin is actually used to withdrawal from benzodiazapine addiction.Last edited by empyr3al; October 23, 2017, 11:37 PM."Everybody is a genius. Mr Vervill, I've had pancreatitis before from severe use and its no fun. That was years ago when I was nearly dead from alcohol. Thankfully this time no issues as it was so short term Gastro intestinal bleeding is also a symptom, which can be frightening at first until you are just so stupid and drunk you just continue to drink no matter if your stool is black or you are dripping. Sorry to sound disgusting but its realistic symptoms."Everybody is a genius. empyr3al I appreciate the informative posts. I did not know that gabapentin is used sometimes to taper from benzos and that bit of info put a puzzle piece in place for me. Recently I was talking with a friend (also and alcoholic altho in denial) and he told me his GP put him on gabapentin but he didn't like it. When I asked why he was on it his answer was very vague. But he told me he would never take it again. Lately all he talks about with me is how mad he is at his GP bc she won't prescribe his sleeping pills which I think were benzos. He is in deep deep denial about his alcoholism. I take just 300mg of gabapentin for nerve pain but it seems that for me the bigger benefit it the improved quality of sleep. If I miss a dose, I can tell a difference.
Orimus, my head was spinning after reading that quote! LOL! I had to google Philip K. Dick afterwards. I found that altho I didn't know him by name, was familiar with his works. For those interested, he was a sci fi novel writer in the late 20th century. He wrote Blade Runner. I found a related quote of his that I really liked as well: “Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.”

I like that eat meat and be happy, too! Lol I've seen the diet doctor web site. I eat mostly veg and meat, just a little carbs. I really need to tackle sugar, it's everywhere. Checking labels the other day for sodium and discovered sugar was added to chicken broth, WTF! Gotta be more diligent!
It's been raining buckets here the past 24 hours.
I'll take 24 more please. (no, not of the rain)

Time for a decaf latte - the cafe seems quiet today. But I’ll take a helping of 24 more please.
Thank you for the quote Ori. Thought provoking. I think we also need the wisdom to discern (right/wrong, good/less good, etc..)what the heart tells us.
Have a delicious 24 everyone.

Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...
24 more, and yes it does seem quiet. Personally I've been cleaning up the messes I've made and making order out of chaos. I find when chaos happens I slip because I get extreme anxiety. So my resolve is too fix the things that frustrate me most and are my triggers. Some of the OCD of sobriety is happening now lol. Personally the gabapentin has made me not lose my mind about the small intricate details that upset me. I'm a little more in control now
Just a little insight if those that don't mind my ramblings. Its simplistic but after experimenting with everything under the sun I've come to this conclusion. I've discussed it before and its that some of us drink because of anxiety and others drink for enjoyment. Thats the separation between where Naltrexone helps those that drink for enjoyment or socially, and Baclofen/Gabapentin/Mirtazapine is for those that drink due to overwhelming anxiety. I suppose its the separation of those that drink for GABA A's and those that drink for GABA B's (anxiety). Simplistic explaination of GABA's but it seems to make sense. I'm of the GABA B group in the broad explaination I've made. CBT and DBT are probably more integrally important for those with anxiety than for those that drink socially.
Just my 2 cents and I hope everyone has a good 24
Oh and it's the birthday of the dog in my avatar, so he's been spoiled!Last edited by empyr3al; October 24, 2017, 10:54 PM."Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid." - Albert Einstein

Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...
Speaking of anxiety, I had a slip last night and had a very unproductive night and day. Checked blood pressure and it was up so simply not worth it back on Day 1 and bought some more thiamine and mega B tabs that I ran out of. By Friday, I should be where I was again so looking forward to 24
