“That all opposites—such as mass and energy, subject and object, life and death—are so much each other that they are perfectly inseparable, still strikes most of us as hard to believe. But this is only because we accept as real the boundary line between the opposites. It is, recall, the boundaries themselves which create the seeming existence of separate opposites. To put it plainly, to say that "ultimate reality is a unity of opposites" is actually to say that in ultimate reality there are no boundaries. Anywhere.”

I was thinking about this and discussing some things about uni on theendofmyaddiction. I've determined that with maturity, you apply yourself differently. I would definitely agree all schools are party schools lol! But I did a trade school 10 years post high school and I didn't party, I applied myself. Shit had I gone straight to college or uni after high school I would have dropped out definitely!

Actually I'm looking at going back to school. Trying to seek out some aptitude testing here locally and figuring out which suits me best (I think I know already) and well we have a new system for OSAP (Ontario Student Assistance Plan) that actually will pay for your school, your books and living expenses. Post graduation you only pay back the living expenses. Now the living expenses are like living like a dorm student so thats an adjustment but you are allowed to work or do a business at the same time so heck. I'm going to look at a career change because every time I get a job in the field I'm in almost everyone drinks and does so on the job so i lapse hard and things go sour. So yeah... No partying if I go back to school

Woke up to freezing rain/sleet and snow this morning, a far cry from the 70 degrees and sun of two days ago.
Made it through a halloween party last night where the only beverages offered were AL. Two Kegs, copious bottles of wine, Fireball and Jello shots. Good lord. Mrs. V and I stayed about an hour or so, putting in face time, and left before things got out of control. Lots of folks from the neighborhood, and the folks that throw the party are actually really nice people, who would do anything for us. I walked around drinking a couple bottles of AF beer I brought with me.
Cowboy, I have never been in the Donkey Cafe, but I've walked by it while looking for the micro brews in Athens, LOL.
Don't get to Athens much as it's about 2 1/2 hr drive from me.
Got another party to go to tonight, but the hosts already know I don't drink anymore, so there won't be any pressure there.
24 hours more please.

I think it's a great idea to go back to school empyr3al! As another tradesman, I know all to well about drinking on the job and after hours. Most of my work is done in a predominately Ukrainian area and all jobs end with food and drink no matter what time of day! Even at 60, I've thought of signing up and going back to school to get journeyman papers in electrical, just don't think I could go back to answering to a boss everyday, I like the freedom being my own boss gives me.

I like our little Café as well dill, but it's the people who make it special to me!

Thanks for another week of great quotes Orimus!

Congrats on getting that first week behind you Inthesky! I know you got this!

Good job Mr Vervill! Each time we get in a victory over alcohol strengthens us for the next time!

A big hello to all I didn't mention specifically, but know that I think of all of you everyday!

Bubba, Hank, and I are off to the farm this morning to finish cleaning out the camper, winterize it, and close it up for the year. Out forecast isn't much better Mr V, lots of below freezing temps, snow, and rain for this coming week. Will probably affect how many youngsters come to the door for a Halloween treat!

abcowboy, interesting thing I've heard is that after retirement years (which is what 67 now?) university classes are free at most institutions. Not sure if its true. Awesome way to keep the mind active if its true!

The funny thing about my ticket which is gas is that I'm allowed to touch electrical within the appliance and within a specific length. I can service 600v AC and do DC miliamp also for example and have all the gear. For a decade I did some very custom tech doing commercial kitchens for the largest of chains in Ontario, Grocery stores and Government. Well 90% of it is actually electrical as that's what controls the gas, steam, mechanical and water. Its all diagnostic so huge dishwashers the size of a vans, enormous conveyor belts and elevators for dish pans. 70,000$ ovens larger than a refrigerator that can auto cook food with 7 temperature probes alone in the temp probe and 4 more in the drain and cabinet to slow roast beef. You can actually cook fish and beef in the same oven without crossing flavours using steam control and exacting temperatures in the cabinet top and bottom. They are called Rational or Altoshaam ovens if you care to look up what I'm talking about. So I do electrical, steam, gas, plumbing all under one ticket. The fact I'm semi colour blind (can't recall the type) means I can't actually follow through on my aptitude which is electrical diagnostic. I have my tricks actually to cross coloured wires to id colour (so if I align a blue wire against a red wire I can tell if its not green). Euro electrical I love blue yellow makes life so simple. Coffee and Icecap machines too One of the extreme things that goes with appliance tech is the amount of data you read and the parts you have to acquire. Interesting calling Spain to get tech support at specific hours in a way different time zone and language. So a ton of work is spent part sourcing (100,000 parts), electrical, plumbing, gas, solenoids, specific parts I have had to get custom cut so you end up doing CAD and other things. Its heavy duty work and I would carry a tablet and I have a Samsung Note 5 to tether too so signatures on invoicing. Parts sourcing. Time management. Incredible stress but I'm really good at it. You end up having to talk to people all day long and explain things and tell them bad news about how their only pizza oven has parts that are unavailable so they are out of business unless I do a multi thousand dollar retro. It was always horribly emotional dealing with the smaller outfits than the ones that are huge like Casino's with multiple machines, or a Tim Hortons. Rules and protocols in Jails, Government, Gas Stations, Boats, etc... Craziness and the variety of tools you need is nuts. Multimeters, pullers, pipe cutters, all variety of spade connectors and adhesives... ID and tag outs, sign in/out, lock outs, pylons, pipe wrenches, threaders, taps, dies and what I choose to put in each tool box and what I choose in the variety diag bag. Nuts ....... So drink yourself to death after the day is done. The other field I have 10 years in is swimming pools, I am a scuba diver by default and can locate leaks under ground to within inches. Measure liners (which is more complicated than you think). No on the concrete, not my thing... So yeah.... Time for a shift.

Fixing international ethnic outfits was always interesting. I've serviced laker sized boats with floating electrical voltages while under pressure because the boat is moving! So you are getting further from your truck and have to plan to the T what you are taking on them. And F'in heck they are cold in the winter! Fixing a heat or exhaust hood on a roof in -40C is freaking craziness. With tied ladders and wind. Wow. Anyways,.... I have said too much!

No I will not work as a cook or chef! I can handle working on their equipment, but not FOR them! Insanity! They are at my mercy, not me under theirs. Cruelty I have seen!

Anyways, I know almost every food as a result

I'm thinking of doing something far outside trades this time around if I do schooling. I'm pretty well versed in a lot of things from psychology too pharmacology so @40 I'm thinking I can do a more severe adjustment than just upgrading my tech/trade tickets. I'm also a computer tech junkie but unless we land the Amazon HQ locally there are no jobs here for that. So thats where the aptitude tests come in... the assistance is only for "in demand" careers, so I have to pick.

Back home again and have the camper all buttoned up for the year, or is it? It was about 5 or 6 years ago that Bubba, Hank, and I spent New Year’s Eve in the camper because it was so nice out! I even bought one of those assorted home fireworks packages to enjoy just for ourselves. I remember sitting around a big campfire, snowbanks surrounding us, and getting up every so often to shoot off a couple more fireworks. I was still drinking back then and I can remember the evening quite clearly, so it must have been one of those rare occasions where I had some self-control lol
