It used to be really tough for me to be around people drinking, not so much any more but I'd be lying if I said I don't miss the taste of a nice cold beer. But I also don't miss what that ice cold beer does to me either. Bubba is adamant about not having any alcohol in the house, no matter who brings it. I feel pretty lucky to have her 100% support! But we'll always find ourselves in situations involving drinking so we just have to remember that we don't have to drink to enjoy any situation or celebration. That doesn't make it any easier, but like you Jude, we just have to walk away from that drink...

Still hot, I'd love to send some your way, Cowboy, QW, and Jude. Should finally cool down this weekend.
Big Oktoberfest here this weekend, the second largest outside of Munich. I always go, and will this year, too.
Now I just go early, eat a few brats, get a creampuff and leave. No hanging around half the night drinking beer, or even worse, start day drinking.
Very few AF choices, but it's still fun.
24 more please

And here we are!!:happy2:

Jude, thank you so much for sharing that with us. Very powerful post.. if you don't mind, I think it should go in the Toolbox. That's where I go if I'm feeling shaky and this post would make me think and STOP! I know it would..

I'm so curious to know what city you're living in, Mr. V.. I probably knew, but can't remember.. I haven't been a huge Oktoberfest fan since I stopped drinking.. here it's only about 2 liter beers, Jägermeister and getting smashed.

Dill, I'm sending warm weather up to AB and Jude with you.. I'm sure I'll be complaining about the cold in a month or two!

Wishing everyone a lovely Thursday.xx

Another 24 hours please & thank you!

Black sheep! I love it and feel right at home.

I had a great International Speak Like a Pirate Day yesterday. Sadly the coffee I enjoyed wasn’t from the Pirate Coffee Company as the beans we brought back from our last visit to Oregon have been enjoyed. If anyone ever has the chance to visit Depoe Bay, Oregon, make sure to visit the cafe.

It looks like we’re in for a taste of fall weather in the next few days. Only 3 months, 29 days, 16 hours and zero minutes until Mexico! Not that I’m counting or anything!

Hope everyone had a great af Thursday!

5:45am in Alberta, another 24 for me please, and thanks...

Surprisingly the ground is dry this morning, but according to the radar map snow is on it's way. Should make for an interesting drive to the city today for the fil's heart specialist appointment...

In the past 24 hours, these people have signed in for 24 hours of sobriety:

Great quote LC.....it's good to be part of the black sheep herd!:happy2:

The bottle of wine is still there and untouched by me! A lot of people think that quitting alcohol or other drugs is just a matter of willpower, and that one who can't abstain is just weak willed. The desire to remain sober has to come from deep within us, and the ability to continue to choose the right path is an ongoing battle. Knowing yourself and the enemy works a whole lot better than willpower. Wish that I had more time to elaborate, but I'm running late this morning.
abcowboy....did you say snow again? Uggh...

Asking for another 24 please and thank you for all of the sober days behind me!

Good morning fellow Black Sheep. Still hot here! 90F the past 3 days, and near that today, high 80's. Cold front moving through tonight. Hope the snow/frost doesn't hurt the crops before you get them in Cowboy.

Speaking of black sheep, I remember going to my Uncle's 50th Sobriety birthday celebration at an AA meeting in Morinville about 5 or 6 years back. Morinville is where I lived and did my apprenticeship in plumbing and heating some 40 years back. I knew a lot of people and made many friends there before moving away. When Bubba and I drove over and attended that meeting, I was very surprised to see many of my old acquaintances there! I had no idea they were alcoholics. It was a great evening of listening to the stories shared by everyone and I even took my turn at getting up and speaking. We really do think we are black sheep until we see the reality of just how many people are affected by alcoholism...

Another 24 hours please & thank you.

Although today is the last full day of summer, it seems ours ended a while ago. We hardly sat out on our deck as it was either too cold, too hot, too windy but mostly because it was too smokey! Oh well. At least I managed to barbecue without a glass in my hand, a nice change.

On the other hand, we got to spend time with family, got to try some new things, did a bit of travelling and worked with Parkinson Alberta to help make a difference in our community.

I hope everyone enjoys their Friday af!

Here we sit at the heart clinic, all appointments running close to an hour late! Never would have thought we’d be slowed down on our way in because of snowplows in the highway! Going to be another interesting drive home...

Cowboy, you must be kidding! Snow plows in September? And it's not even Fall until tomorrow, much less winter!!

LC, I really likes that quote. It's really an interesting thought. I want a healthy, happy, sober. clear eyed woman to greet me 10 years from now.

Home safe and sound, the trip home was much easier as the highway was cleaned and melted off by the time we left the city. dill, maybe you should tell the powers that be that's it's not supposed to be winter yet, they seemed to have forgot about northeastern Alberta lol
