5:55am in Alberta, I'll have another 24 please, and thanks...

-18C (0F) this morning! It'll be insulated coveralls day as I'll be working in the cold installing a unit heater in a garage...

In the past 24 hours, these people have signed in for 24 hours of sobriety:
Rava Jude58 dill Mr Vervill Ginger999 Slo Quit wining abcowboy

Today is going to be a darn good day not to drink!
Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...
Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Just get through today. Tomorrow will look after itself when it becomes today, because today is all we have to think about.
Friendship is not about how many friends you have or who you've known the longest. It's about who walked into your life, said "I'm here for you", and proved it.

Dill, education has changed so much in my opinion too. I have watched too many excellent teachers choose to leave out of frustration with all the measures they must meet with little to no support from admin or parents in a lot of cases! Health care is the same. Doctors have so much documenting they must do they look at their computers instead of their patients. I've known two doctors that left the states to practice so they could just see patients again. One moved to Mexico, one to Africa. So sad...

Still in the low 80s around these parts. I'll take another 24, please and thank you!

I can’t believe how cold you are there already, Cowboy! We have the most beautiful snowfall going on outside right now. I hear the snowplows going by.

How’s the chimney repair going, Mr Vervill. That would’ve been better to be handled back in July!

The quote for today means that we have to self-manage ourselves with regards to staying quit. It is tempting to drink when “nobody will know”, but we have to have the character to lead ourselves to stay quit.

I used to work as a nurse, Dill. My unit closed, so my job ended when my youngest was two and I had four kids to raise, with lots of housework, laundry, & carpooling etc. to do. When I tried to go back later, Epic computer charting had started and it was too steep of a learning curve, plus my injured knee had deteriorated and it was too hard to stay on my feet for long periods of time. So I’m “retired” too.
I have two daughters working in jobs with crushing computer documentation to do; one in healthcare and the other in education. In nursing it didn’t take that long to sign your initials or hand-write an order. With computers it takes 10x as long, but you’re not given any extra time for it! Very frustrating, and of course it’s time with patients that gets cut out.

Going for another 24 hours today, please & thank you!

29F and sunny
Chimney guys just showed up, delayed a day because of rain. Should take a week or so, we'll see.

Another24 hours please & thank you.

Dill, the bread turned out perfect yesterday so hopefully Mrs QW will try it soon. She used to love baking so hopefully this will help her do something she once enjoyed.

Mr D bought an electric pressure cooker? Me too. Is the Indian Butter Chicken recipe available? I’d love to try it.

My sister’s youngest son has autism. When he was young, his parents invested a lot of time and money in medical treatments, including speech therapy. He graduated from the University of Toronto a few years ago with an honours degree in computer science and is now an IT specialist with a little company called IBM!
In spite of the frustrations with administrative processes, you must have found your work rewarding. You should be proud!

It’s too cold to walk outside today - sorry Jessie - so it’ll be a treadmill day. Warmer tomorrow according to the forecast.

Have a great af Wednesday everyone.

Here is a link to the recipe, QW. She has a complete book of instant pot recipes and I've tried a couple of the other recipes and have liked them. But the butter chicken is Mr. D's favorite and mine as well. Yes Mr. D is the one who led the way on the electric pressure cooker. He also used it to can green beans which is the real reason he bought it begin with. We found the old fashioned pressure cooker took too much time and attention. The electric one made the process much easier, altho it didn't hold as much.

Do you have a stick blender? I use mine in this recipe and highly recommend getting one if you don't already have one. I love mine!

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

I guess never say never lol. I’m typing this as I go back and forth in the combine! Seems the only way to get the canola to go through is at night when it’s frozen hard lol. And with close to a million dollars of canola still in the field, we’ll combine however we can!

Sounds like your recovery is coming along nicely Jude58, it’s amazing how fast the weeks go by!

They figure it’ll take a week to replace the chimney Mr Vervill? It must be a major undertaking!

I’ve never used a pressure cooker dill and Quit wining, but I am researching crock pot recipes as I don’t feel like cooking when I get home from work. lol

We do lead by example Slo, and as dill said, we have to be careful not to lead by bad example. I still have a few bad habits that I’m sure others see in me, but I’m working on them and hopefully people will eventually want what I have become.

I really enjoy seeing your pictures from the harvesting Cowboy. I hope the cab is heated! And crock pot is my preferred mode of cooking these days. I too enjoy dinner being ready at the end of the day. I don't know if you like Indian food, but here is a crock pot version of the Butter Chicken:

Slow Cooker Butter Chicken + Video – TwoSleevers

Slo, I really like today's quote. It really gives perspective. I often think about the person I want to be and realize that it is continuous effort to become that ideal. To be the person you want to be in the future you have to start today and keep up the effort! That's not only true for recovering addicts/alkies. That's true for everyone. No one is perfect so there will be set backs, but the effort must continue.

I had a farmer friend stop by with a bag of turnips he wanted to share. So I was looking for some kind of turnip recipe and found one that had chickpeas, onions, tomatoes, dried apricots and was done in the crockpot. I used it as a template, but made various changes that I thought we would prefer and boy was it a hit with Mr. D. It was supposed to be vegetarian but Mr. D lobbied for the addition of some pork we had leftover from two nights ago. It turned out to be a really good addition tho so I gave him due credit. One reason I like to cook in the crock pot (and this is a very big reason) is because cooking in the afternoon went hand-in-hand with the opening of a bottle of wine. Cooking in the morning avoids that temptation but yesterday, even tho it was early in the day, I was surprised by a visit the beast, reminding me of how I used to enjoy that late afternoon drink.... I pushed the thoughts aside and distracted myself with an audio book I'm in the middle of listening to....

24 more for me and all my friends, as Pauly says!
