Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...
Fascinating twist on burning bridges; that in order to change our habits around drinking, it often involves “burning the bridges” on who we are hanging out with. And after the toxic work environment, you either had to “not burn bridges” or stand up for what is right - but both were not going to be possible. So, sometimes you have to burn bridges!
That was a funny story about the volunteer who didn’t show up for meetings, and then signed up but didn’t show up for the dinner either!
Loved the picture of the giraffe, Rava. You have some grands in Florida then?
I ended up being able to arrange things so that I could drive up here last night to be with baby Beckett for a couple days! Hopefully I will find ways to be helpful.
Thanks for the reminder about the coloring app, Jude! My teenaged daughter introduced me to one over Christmas break and had me do a picture. It’s fascinating how detailed the button functions are for the various colors, and less stressful in a way than actual coloring because you can easily switch out your color choices. I might try that on my iPad as a way to manage anxiety.Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...
I’ve been in a lot of pain & distress over this knee, and leading to fatigue and even a low-grade fever, I think from all the inflammation. But my Dr. talked me off the ledge yesterday like you all were so kindly doing too, and ultimately it sounds like it should turn out ok!
Hopefully Mr. D’s shoulder won’t require rotator cuff repair surgery, Dill, and just needs rest and a break from overuse? Hope you had a good, long weekend with your granddaughter! My daughter goes back to school today too.
Well, hopefully we all survived what the media has dubbed “Blue Monday”! I’m in for 24 more hours today.Last edited by Slo; January 21, 2020, 07:08 AM.Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

Today is going to be a darn good day not to drink!Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...
Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Just get through today. Tomorrow will look after itself when it becomes today, because today is all we have to think about.

I am so glad you got good news and reassurance from your doc, Slo! Sometimes we can worry ourselves silly! It reminds me of one of my favorite poems, Desiderata. One line I always think of from that poem is:
But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
If you are not familiar with the poem, you should search it. It has really guided me many times.
Cowboy, that is so great that you remembered to bake that cake for Marylou123! Always good to celebrate! I'm trying to cut back on sweets but I'll have a sliver...
QW, loved that quote and the whole idea about burning bridges. Sometimes it is absolutely necessary. But if the bridge is over a Valley of Fear, don't burn it!
24 more please and thank you.Dill
Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!
If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

Slo...great news about the knee! I wish that I could take credit for the coloring app, but I believe that was Rava's idea! I use it myself now and again, but still prefer to use paper and pencil.
Wonderful quote and post Quit wining! I was always told that you should never burn your bridges, but in our case, light the matches!!!
7°F here, but at least it's not snowing, and it's supposed to warm up at the end of the week!
I'll take another 24 hours booze free please!

Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...
Another good quote! Had a hike planned today but mother nature decided the desert needed rain so will schedule it for another day.
Slo, I hope your doc is right and you turn the corner with that knee soon!
Saw the reference to blue Monday yesterday. I don't recall hearing of that before. What a shame. I'd love to know the percent of stuff that was purchased for Christmas that's already broken or set aside. I've never been a shopper so it makes no sense to me. When each of my grandkids were born I created a savings account and put money in it for holidays instead of buying gifts. They got so much stuff from others, they never missed a toy from us. The three older ones have used there savings now. Two used to help with tuition and one used to help purchase property. Made us feel good to help in the end with such important events in their lives.
I'll take another 24, please and thank you!

Another 24 hours please & thank you.
Ginger, what a great idea to contribute dollars to a savings account for the grandkids! I usually have a small gift for my grandkids to unwrap but their main gift is a contribution to their registered education savings accounts.
In addition to that, this year I’ve started to set aside money for them on a weekly basis - $1 week 1, $2 week 2, $3 week 3, etc. By the end of the year there will be almost $1,400. That money will go to their education savings as well.
Yesterday, in recognition of Blue Monday, we gave the reception staff at our doctors office a box of chocolates. It was totally unexpected and it made their day. These are the folks who make the appointments for us with our family doc plus specialists and they deserve a treat!
Rava, sorry it’s cold there. I recall spending 2 weeks in Florida one winter and going home not with a tan but a cold! Hope it warms up soon! It was easy to tell the Canadians though - we were the only ones at the beach!!!
Have a great af Tuesday everyone!

Hello My Friends,

Most people never heal because they stay in their heads, replaying corrupted scenarios. Let it go! S. McNutt
Replaying those scenarios in our minds, over and over again doesn’t help, does it. Nothing ever changes. I know I’ve done it, not sure why but I attribute it to being in that alcohol fog. Having a clear head makes it easier to let it go.

Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...
Good quote QW Yes let it go. It’s like living in the past. You can’t move forward being stuck in the past. Marylou123 congrats on 6 years. So glad we eat cake and breakfast in here a lot! Woke up to temps in the 30’s in Florida. I know that’s not cold by Canadian standards. I don’t even have a coat here. The local news warns people of iguanas falling out of trees. Apparently they go into a sleep state when it’s cold and literally fall. If one ever fell on me I would faint!! Slo, glad your doc is talking you off the ledge. Healing takes time and patience. Hope it all works out in the end for you! I have grands visiting their other grandparents for the winter so they are close by. I have never heard of Blue Monday so that is something I learned from this group. Hope everyone has a great day. Another 24 for me please and thank you.
