I meant to get a post in yesterday from the field but the canola we were harvesting was pretty tough cutting so my concentration was all on that. Anyway, back in the saddle Jude58, and as the old saying goes; forget the mistake but remember the lesson!

Loved the pics dill! Your countryside looks a lot like ours! And thanks for the stats, interesting to see that they publish numbers, but not the stats. The numbers make for more drastic headlines I suspect...

Lots of wide open spaces up in my area Ginger999, room enough for all my American friends!

I also agree paulywogg, time for the kids to get back to a normal again. Schools up here have been open for a month or so with little problem, but time will tell if it was the right thing to do.

Headed into Vermilion this morning to meet with Bubba and turn over the house to the new owner. She's a young single mom with an 8 year old son and a labradoodle. The house and fenced yard should be perfect for them!

As I was unloading into the grain cart yesterday, I noticed the shadows and thought they looked pretty cool...

Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...

That's great that the house will be enjoyed by that young family Cowboy, I hope they build lots of great memories there Dill, beautiful pics, phone cameras have come a looooong way! I love my galaxy Ginger that debate was alot to sit thru but I also couldn't stop watching haha, I just wish I could hear some concrete plans and I've heard nothing from either yet, I think those two have been wanting to get things off their chests for awhile and did it at the debate, we'll see how the next goes I think they put new guidelines in place, QW, that joke was cute! 5:38 am in Vegas another 24, wishes for a wonderful AF day for us all!
I have too much shit to do today and tomorrow to drink:sohappy:

Another 24 hours please & thank you.

Dill, phone cameras have really improved in the last few years. Ohio in autumn looks like a lot like fall in Alberta, as Cowboy pointed out. I’m glad Tessa is doing better after getting her meds tweaked. Spending time in nature with a fur buddy is the best!

I have a Lumix point & shoot camera that I bought over 10 years ago. It has several options though not full manual but it’s the camera I take on vacation, along with my phone of course. I love my Nikon but to take it on a trip means another backpack for the camera, 3 lenses, flash, filters and other attachments. Mr V, I’m sure you can relate! For most of the photography I do, the Lumix is perfect. For close ups of flowers, the Nikon is best.

I read yesterday that Google reported a spike in searches on How to Move To Canada and Move to Canada after the debate Tuesday evening. Not a surprise that many of our American friends are fed up.

Our Parkinson support group meets today, in person instead of via Zoom. Looking forward to seeing everyone even if it is from behind a mask.

Have a great af Thursday everyone!

QW

Glad the house is wrapping up, ABC. It sounds like a great place for that young mom and her son.

My hubby loves a good joke and yours was right up his alley, QW. Good morning chuckle.

Dill, your area is beautiful. How old is Tessa? Ours just turned 11 and is really looking rough. Vet says she's OK it's just age. Sad to consider the future...

Pauly, are you able to work at the salon full time now? My sister is still at 25%. Covid is killing her business slowly. 😭

Jude, when did you say your retirement date was?

Rava, hope you're drying out down there! We are still planning to head out in three weeks. I'm still on the fence with going though. Hearts not in it this year.

Waves to anyone I missed! Hope you all have an easy AF day.

Ginger999... My last day of work is next Thursday! Looking forward to it, but I'm a little anxious that I will start drinking again with all of the spare time that I'll have. That would be a recipe for disaster!

24 more please and thank you!

Jude I totally get it about being anxious with your spare time. You will find things to fill your time and start new hobbies. I totally understand how you feel as I have been retired for almost a year. Yes I have had a few mishaps with drinking but the bottom line is that I want to be sober more than I want to drink. We all know what its like to slide down that hill. We keep coming back. Your latest mishap may have been related to your anxiety of next Thursday. Hang in there and stay the course. We are here with you every step. Hope everyone has a great day. Another 24 for me please and thank you.

Re: ~cattleman cafe~ & another 24...

Cowboy, I see what you mean about those shadows! I thought they made an interesting pic.

Ginger, Tessa is 9 yo and the vet says she is generally in good health altho she has the thyroid condition which is being managed and arthritis. He is suggesting a supplement for the arthritis called dasuquin advantage. It is so far only available from vet offices. There is a dasuquin available online too but it is not quite the same. It lacks a couple of ingredients that the vet feels are key to treating inflammation and therefore give the animal pain relief. I am on a fence about it. The sup he prescribed is pricey and given daily (I think he said $115 for a jar of 140) and much more expensive than the one that is available online. I'm not sure what to do tbh. I want to trust the vet on the one hand, but on the other hand I wonder if it isn't just a way for them to pull in a little more $$$. It's a supplement, not a med.

Pauly I too watched that debate from start to finish. I could not turn it off which is saying something because I am one who goes to bed around 9:30 typically. I have never been able to watch a presidential debate from start to finish for that reason but also because they usually are pretty boring. It didn't make me want to leave the country in the least. I'm sure Canada is beautiful, but I'm staying put in Ohio! LOL

Wow, QW! Big move to have the support group meeting in person. I think it's a good one though. That is a much better way to connect as one human to another. Stay safe. Mask, hand sanitizer, and distance. Let us know how it went.

Jude I understand your worries about drinking in retirement. I think tho that you will quickly see that you want to enjoy your retirement and not have it clouded with amnesia, anxiety and self-loathing. Start thinking about possible volunteer opportunities and renewing hobbies to occupy your time. You've got this!

Rava, speaking of pictures, I always enjoy images from your world, too! (Hint, hint...)

24 more please and thank you.

5:28 am in Vegas another 24 Jude, I had the cutest customer the other day who's in her 70's and still working, she told me she just switched to part time tho cuz she's an alcoholic and can't sit at home, she's one who knows she's got issues but doesn't want to stop though, when she said it I laughed and she said no I'm serious but too old to quit, meh I don't think you're ever to old to quit drinking but she was set in her ways, I'm sure you'll be fine and keep busy, Dill, yeah it's not as easy to move to Canada as everyone thinks anyways haha, wishes for a happy AF Friday for us all!

Quick check in. Turns out I have to home school the boys again today.

Dill, we give the regular dosaquin to our dog. It was recommended by our vet. Seems to help. Maybe start there and if you don't see improvement then switch? Takes a couple weeks to work tho so give it time.

24 more please and thank you!

The Parkinson’s support group meeting went well yesterday although there was only 8 of us. Masks, sanitizer and social distancing were used but it was great to see folks in person. We had a Zoom presentation by an exercise specialist, very worthwhile. Next meeting will be a combination of in person and Zoom for those who don’t want to go out.

Mr V, you’re right. The best camera is the one you have with you! F8 and be there is advice I was given many years ago by a long time photographer.

Jude, retirement brings some challenges but lots and lots of opportunities. Be aware, the beast will be lingering but you are the one with the power. What do you see yourself doing in retirement? I found keeping busy and doing things that weren’t work helped me. I read a lot, walked a lot and volunteered with a few groups that needed support. I found that I didn’t miss work (my last job was the best I ever had and I was worried they couldn’t get by without me). I did, and still do, miss my former co-workers and 10 years later, I still keep in touch with my former administrator and office manager, both have also since retired.
Don’t forget that your friends are here for you if you need us.

Have a great af Friday everyone!

Ginger, thanks for the suggestion about the dasuquin online as a starting point. Good idea. Tessa has been on cosequin for years now, but dasuquin does seem like it is a stronger sup than the cosequin. I'm going to finish this current jar of cosequin before I start the dasuquin tho. I just recently purchased it and don't want to waste it. The vet said to give her two instead of the one tho. By he way, I mentioned a product available only thru the vet and I called it dasuquin advantage. I had that wrong. It's called dasuquin advanced. For now it is available only thru vets.

Pauly, interesting story about your client who says she is too old to quit. I agree with you that it's never too late to quit, but at the same time I understand her point about habit strength. Did you tell her that you had quit and are on a wellness path for yourself?

Yes, the camera that's with you is the best! Good point Mr. V!

I too still keep in touch with a small group of former coworkers. In fact I'm set to meet with one this week for a walk on the bike trail. I am so excited to see her! She moved to Columbus 3 years ago which is an hour from here so we get together only infrequently now. But she is such a dear friend that I cherish any time we can get.

I know we aren't supposed to be political here but I think this point will be ok: The media have such a love/hate relationship with President Trump. They constantly harass him but they can't get enough of him. Their ratings depend on him because as far as I can tell they've abandoned any effort at reporting real news. I think I saw yesterday a glimmer of fear from the media when they came to realize that they might have to look for other things to talk about for a few days while the president is convalescing... But wouldn't it be a refreshing change?

24 more please and thank you.
