Late check in for me due to the volunteer job. The drive this morning was awful due to snow and slick roads. Luckily, Schools were on a two hour delay and I made it safe and sound.

Too bad about the garage door opener, Cowboy. It's definitely not something that can be put off tho.

Rava, good idea focusing on crafting during your witching hours.

Ginger, glad you had a nice AF dinner with some old friends. I don't have any old HS friends around here, but I have other friends that are AF and it makes for a good, unchallenging social time!

Jude, my parents used to live near Ft. Myers in Port Charlotte when they retired. I still remember visiting with them there and how my Dad loved his grapefruit trees in their front yard. Have a wonderful time!

Slo, maybe it's just a matter of getting used to your new window treatments? I find that I have to settle in with a thing before I really know how I feel about it. I don't have a knack for decorating. Our windows have been the same since we moved in here and painted and remodeled. The windows are old farmhouse size, 72"Hx36"W. I have covered up only the bottom halves with simple, white cafe curtains, not valences or anything. I think most people would be more creative, but I like the simple look, and it lets in a lot of light, so it suits us.

    Hello Mulburry!

24 more for all of us here, please and thank you.

    Dill

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

Good morning Cafe. Ginger, I am glad your dinner was AF and that it was a good night for you. The truth is alcohol ruins everything!!!! Slo yes I am diamond painting and watching my reality shows. It is keeping my mind busy and not obsessing over wanting to drink. I am sorry you don't like your window treatments. What is it that you don't like? Is it an easy fix? Dill, glad you made in into work safely in all that snow and ice. Cowboy, sorry about the garage door. We just had ours replaced as well. But it wasn't cold out. Hey Jude! (Sounds like a Beatles song!). Hi to Mul as well. Hope everyone is doing well. Hey Techie maybe you could check in at some point. 24 more please and thank you!

Sounds like you had a great time at lunch Ginger, do your hs friends live in the area full time or vacation down there like you? It's amazing you've kept in touch all these years.

Snow covered or icy roads are never fun to drive on dill, glad you made to and from your volunteer job okay.

You'll have to show us some of your diamond painting projects Rava, it seems to be a popular crafting hobby up here as well for many people.

Maybe the new window dressings will grow on you Slo after a bit of time but if you're anything like me, if I don't like something I just change it or I'll always think about it.

It was -25C (-13F) here yesterday morning and it's -5C (23F) here this morning, I'll take the warmer temps for sure! Supposed to be well above freezing tomorrow so it'll be a good time to change out the opener.

Your curtains sound absolutely perfect, Dill, and just the right aesthetic for an old farmhouse. I am trying to get used to these, but can see that I won’t. Ugh!

My mother called me! I have been waiting to see if she would ever call me, instead of me always having to be the one to call her! But, she just asked for “a favor”. That’s the only reason she ever calls me.
She wants me to drive to her part of the state, then drive her to my brother’s house in his part of the state for his first grandchild’s baptism, -and she will buy me gas.
Then she said goodbye. Doesn’t ask how I’m doing, how my daughters and grandchildren are doing, or anything.
Just wants to use me to go to a family event for her favorite child that I’m not included in -even though I might like to see all these nephews who will be coming in from far away, etc. But I get to go only in the demeaning capacity of chauffeur.

I mention it here because Rava will get it -she had a NPD-disordered mother too.
And I mention it because this is a site for support for alcohol use disorder, and this really triggered me and made me feel like I wanted to use again. And I don’t deal with that too much anymore.
Instead, I cried for a long while. And I reached out to my other outcast siblings about it.
Said I would do it, but not sure if I will. It might be time to call out the bullshit and cut ties.

I am committed to another 24 hours AF.

Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

Slo, I'm so very sorry about your relationship with your Mom. It's so hard to deal with family $h!t. I'm glad it didn't trigger you. I'm curious about your window coverings too. What is it you don't like?

I went to a casino yesterday with some ladies for lunch and gambling. I took my sketch book and pens and after I donated $5 to the casino, I sat by the pool and sketched. It was lovely. The birds were really talkative!

Waves to all! I'll take another day of freedom!

This is the first I have heard of "diamond painting" so I looked at a beginner tutorial on YouTube. It looks like the finished project is beautiful! It would definitely be an absorbing hobby.

Slo, I'm sorry you had such a disappointing interaction with your Mom. I'm really glad you did not let it trigger you! I believe it would have done for me.

24 more for all of us here, please and thank you.

Slo, sorry that you are having issues with your mother, but keep in mind that having a lot of resentment in your life can often lead to a drink. It's happened to me in the past and it's important to be able to let some things go. Maybe while you're driving her around you can talk to her about how you are feeling. Hope that you get used to your new curtains!

Rava, diamond painting sounds like fun! I occasionally do a paint by number project when I have time. There are some good ones out there and look realistic when they are finished. I also knit a lot which is a good way to keep my hands busy when a craving hits.

Looking forward to another 24 hours of freedom...

Try not to let your mom get you Slo, sounds like she's not good for your mental health which is a shame.

I can't recall the last time I was in a casino Ginger, but I know it's been many years. I know I'd never be able to handle all the noise and commotion now.

                        Have a great Saturday y'all!

Good morning Cafe. I just posted a long note which they said I timed out and i lost it all. UGH. Anyway, Slo, I do get it with your mom but agree with the others about transporting her and trying to talk to her and maybe come to an understanding. You will not change her behavior so you must change the way you deal with her. She is not worth drinking over. My mother passed away a little over a year ago and I do not really miss her or all the drama she created. I don’t feel guilty saying that because it just is what it is. Ginger, I am not a gambler either. Thank goodness that is one thing I am not craving. I go to a casino with 20.00 and once it’s gone, I am done. Jude and Dill, I have enclosed a diamond painting picture I completed. It’s hard to see any detail in this picture. Cowboy I hope you get that garage door fixed today now that the weather is a bit warmer. Hope everyone has a good and AF day! 24 more please and thank you.

Rava, they are beautiful! I can see how one could get lost in that activity! My 10 yo gson worked on one for over a year. When he was done, he gave it to me! I'll cherish it forever!

Had another nice visit with the HS girlfriends and their hubbies yesterday. They came our way to see how the gypsies live. Lol Lovely day to sit outside and chat. They saw my puzzle I was working on and wanted to puzzle. Haha.... exciting old people or what?

I hope we all have a wonderful AF day! I'll take another day of freedom!

I do knit and crochet, but mostly I distract myself, when necessary, with walking and housework while listening to audiobooks/podcasts.

Rava, thanks for sharing the photos of your projects. They are beautiful! And each one a tribute to your spirit and determination. Definitely a better result than if you had been wasting your time on drinking.
