Why did Joe quit? Was he an alkie?

Time to ring in the new.....
I am considering giving up refined sugar for my new years resolution. I have heard that sugar causes cravings similar to alc or drugs so want to add another tool to my arsenal and get stronger over the coming months.
The benefits are supposed to be amazing including more energy and focus so looking forward to that.
I hope NS pops in with some advice for this Newbie

no -- deffo not an alkie -- he did 'like' drinking - we drank together -- boozing mates and it was fun -- he missed that - but he couldn't see any point in having an alcohol ethos in the house -- for so long while I was trying to stay quit -- musta been 2 years that I frequently relapsed prior to this quit - he could see that it didn't work - he was al ho ho ho and lets go to the pub etc etc.. now he can see that for what it was I'm guessing he doesn't know how I put up with it AT ALL --it just drifted along really and he never went back -- sometimes I wish he would -- it unwound him --- nowadays he has none of the tools he learned in aftercare or anything -- he's forgotten it all - so it's a bit like living with a dry drunk lately
