And you know, you are right, if I think about it, the consistent exposure to drugs was not as prominent as it would have been to alcohol, the legal drug which is a huge part of our culture.
And if I really think back, I was always pushing for that extra high, I suppose circumstances and opportunity possibly protected me from a different path.

Mary, I feel that I too was protected from worse than it was by my circumstances. And I am thankful for that....

Looking for a little bit of help -- doing an assignment with the title 'once an addict always an addict' - discuss ----- anyone feel like giving me a couple of sentences with your opinion on that? would be MUCHO appreciated.... at yer leisure loike ;-)

You know the first question that popped into my head was ...........addicted to what? Then I gave myself a bit of slap just because I'm addicted to a legally bought substance in this case alcohol doesn't make me a lot different to some one who buys heroin on the street.

I've dithered backwards and forwards and finally decided yes..........once an addict always an addict..........if we use our drug of choice again over time and it doesn't take long before we're back in the mire of hopelessness.


Another thought we have food addicts/shopping addicts........it may not kill us physically but financially and mentally can ruin us but we have to do that to eat or dress ourselves.............this has to be controlled and that just can't be easy. Our addiction while not easy to do is handled (for want of a better word) by abstinence.

Think I've just brought up more questions than answers.
