I'll have to catch you while we're all awake - almost 7 am here.

Did you catch this documentary on TV in Ireland: RTÉ Television - Programmes - Factual - Sugar Crash ?
I've heard it is really good but unfortunately didn't watch it b/f it was taken off YouTube due to copyright violations. Those of you in UK might be able to see it, though.

            Hey Sweets
Yes I saw it - it was presented by Eva Orsmond - I know her from a previous encounter - she is a great advocate of fighting children's obesity from a diet perspective -not just homing in on exercise.
it was very informative - but I have to say - nothing YOU haven't warned us about
SUGAR is in everything including savoury foods.
Ireland is heading to be the fattest nation in Europe.

I was buying canned peas (gross) for my grandson yesterday (finger-food as he learns to eat), read the label and found added sugar. So weird and unnecessary!

Thats very interesting Starty, very true. I honestly didnt know about any online forums before until I loaded up on books and found the sober recovery site - I must have stumbled on here while searching. I knew the times of the Local AA meetings and was getting closer to attending one, but it really scared the shit out of me.
As did bearing all here, but not as much. But the real beauty here is that its open all day every day! I would loose myself for hours, it was all so new - sure I hadnt a clue really and couldn't believe that my brain was wired the same as everyone else!

                    This
extension for Chrome gets around all these problems, mentioned before.
It just blocks your IP address and makes it look like your browsing from the country of your choice.

                      Hi Molly,

You are much more an expert than I am on this and you are absolutely right.. But, if it works and it does work for many, fantastic. For others, it could be a stepping stone. Also, its better than nothing if a person just wont go to AA. They might get the right advice on line, move closer to a permanent solution - the community part is huge.

I'm grateful that online support was available - there is no way I would have gone to AA and my life "appeared" to be ok - I'd never experienced any fall-out from drinking (other than the loss of my soul, of course...). Working from home helped me hide the problem and no one other than my husband really knew how many activities and interests I'd given up. And all that happened so gradually over time, it didn't really seem that odd to him, either. It seems to me, though, that an online forum like this generally works only for the people who use the heck out of it -- I had this site open on my computer almost all day everyday for months! I read current posts, old posts, and posted A LOT. I really don't see how it works for people just check in once in awhile.

Agree with you both, its certainly appears to work if you put the same effort into not drinking as you did into drinking?? I was so glad I found that button which hides your on line status because I was embarrassed about the amount of time I was spending here.:blushing:

NS - I was the same as you, no one would have a clue, but my head was wreck and I was a car crash waiting to happen. The idea of AA scared me, but I would have gone in the end.. You probably would have too - if it came to it.

I would like to think that I would have gotten over myself, admitted my problem more publicly, and gotten help but I wasn't there yet. Sometimes I even thought it would be a relief to get a DUI or something - to be forced out of the closet I was hiding in. It's hard to know if I ever would have put my ego aside -- but, like you, if a person has truly given an online forum a chance to work and it hasn't, something else is probably needed. I hate seeing people repeat the same experiment over and over again.

xpost, Mary -- I was relieved to go invisible, too! I felt like such a headcase (see...EGO EGO EGO!!).
I'll give that download a try - thanks!
