Where do you all hail from?
Mom is of English descent but the family has been in this country for hundreds of years. My dad's family is from the border country (Scottish/English) but also been here for a very long time. I'm as WASP as you can possibly get. No wonder I married a Jewish guy from Brooklyn (of Russian descent) whose grandmother only spoke Yiddish! Oy vay!!! :HRest in Peace, Bear. We miss you.Comment

Mostly Irish, Scottish and English with a bit of French and German. My maiden name is supposedly Irish (I traced it to Thurles where my great grandfather came from) but doesn't sound it. Sounds English. Others have told me it can be traced back to France. HMMM - maybe why I move so much?Comment

My fathers name is Swiss and means one who comes from near Wandfluh (Wand = wall, fluh = steep mass of rock). It is a very old name and comes from the Simmental, Bernese uplands (Berner Oberland). There is a little village today in the Dietmigen Valley, high in the Bernese Alps of Switzerland. Today there is an old mill and a beautiful house there. The name means 'among the Wandfluh'. The residents lived below a steep rock face.
