Nora, the “mentions” is the biggest change I’ve seen. There are a few choices now for the “skin” of the site, it can be changed at the very left bottom of the page. Some color changes on the “sticky threads”, font and color changes as well.

I think you also noticed when they added the “ new posts since you last logged on” but I see they’ve played with it a bit, moving it around, and it now looks as though it’s found it’s home in the form of a “new posts” button on the top navigation bar.

I’ve checked with the Forum Manager about the possibly moving the Tool Box into the Just Starting Out forum and asked about a notification for when a member gets quoted. From the sounds of it, they want to get a handle on what’s existing before making many changes and I agree with that… Rome wasn’t built in a day lol.

As I said, it’s great to see the changes and improvements, it only helps to make MWO better!

Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...
Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Just get through today. Tomorrow will look after itself when it becomes today, because today is all we have to think about.
Friendship is not about how many friends you have or who you've known the longest. It's about who walked into your life, said "I'm here for you", and proved it.

Re: Do You REALLY Want To Be Sober?

Thanks Cowboy - I do hope that the toolbox gets moved to Just Starting Out. Funny - I was going to request the same thing.

When I asked about moving the Tool Box, NoraC he/she (FM) said they were hesitant to move a member started thread. I guess I can understand that, but if the member who started the thread hasn't logged in for years, I can't think they would complain if it got moved. I suggested they do a post in the Newbie Nest asking if it should be moved and see what the response was. It's a wait and see thing I guess, or we could do a poll to see those in favour or against...

Re: Do You REALLY Want To Be Sober?

Even though I know where the toolbox is, it is not what I consider easily accessible. Of course, that's only my opinion.
Anyway, thanks for asking!

Not ignoring the suggestion, but as you mentioned, there's a lot to look at and do.

Keep up the good work and thanks for being here!

Lots of people coming on to the threads looking for help and support, just the way it’s supposed to be. I just finished typing out 4 pm’s, and I’m very glad to do it! It’s when we see people struggle the most, turn to us for help and support, that we have to be there for them. I don’t always know what to say, and sometimes I say the wrong thing, but at least I feel like I’m reaching out, letting them know that I really care about what’s going on.

This is a part of 1 of my pm’s, but I think it applies to a whole lot of us; I really believe that there is something in our heads that makes us drink, and I don’t mean a brain misfire as it relates to alcohol. Something other than that, depression, anger, guilt, self-pity, poor self-esteem, something causes us to reach for the bottle to numb it. In order to be successful at quitting, we need to find out what that thing is, then find ways to deal with it other than by drinking.

I know it was that way for me. It wasn’t until I was at the very end of my rope and the knot was coming undone, that I realized something had to change or I would die, and possibly take someone along with me. And I knew I couldn’t figure it out on my own, I’d tried that too many times without any success. I’m so glad that my Doc made me see a counsellor, that was the only way that I started to understand where my drinking was coming from. I had to swallow a lot of pride and ego to make the appointments, but it was my pride and ego keeping me from getting sober.

I always think that people don’t have to get as low in the hole as I did, but maybe that’s not quite true. Maybe there are others like me that have to get close to death, or kill someone else before they realize that the madness has to stop. What a shame that is, that we think so little of ourselves or those around us, that we would let it get to that, but it did for me. It doesn’t have to be that way for you….

Forum Manager. Instead of moving the thread, how about creating a new thread with a post that contains a link to the toolbox and making it a sticky? That way it doesn't move, but would be accessible in a place where newbies are?

Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!

If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

In addition, or at the expense of @mention?

Quote notification in the Notifications tab does not exist in 4.x.x. There is a plugin that provides either email or PM notification but with only 100 PM's per registered user, this would test some users allocation. This may explain why @mention is popular across the 4.x.x range.

I expect if the demand is high enough it may be possible to modify the plugin.

That's strange Administrator, back up in the thread when Forum Manager quoted me, I got a notification the she did. But in the post you just did, your quote notification didn't come through, just the mention notification. So I'm thinking the mention overrides the quote as far as notifications go. At any rate, things are great just the way they are! Thanks for all your hard work!

I saw your post a couple of days ago, so I have been working on it to try to get it to work the way I think it should. I expect you got the Quote Notification when the test was going ahead. It is no longer under test, so disabled.

10/10 for observancy.

There are two post feeds in the navbar:

My New Posts relates to new unread posts, both current and prior to your most recent login. When the new posts are read they are removed from the list.

Today's Posts relate to todays posts and remain on the list (albeit in a faded color once read) until the following day. These are also listed as current and since your last login or cookie session timeout. (Currently 900s)

Most users who login (at least) once daily will find Today's Posts more useful and those, more periodically, New Posts......I guess.
