Dreams about drinking
For the past 4 nights I've had dreams where I was drinking. They were really vivid to the point where I woke up disoriented and not sure if I was sober or not. I hate having these dreams but I love having them too. I think I enjoy the drama and being able to relive the experience of drinking, even if it's only in my dreams. On the other hand I wake up freaking out that I actually drank and have to reset my sobriety date. I just want to vent and get this out. Anyone else have this?Tags: None

It's very common Southshoregirl, in some of mine I refuse to drink even though peeps are pressuring me, in some I'm hammered and like you said almost feel hangovery when i wake up,just be glad its a dream(nightmare)I have too much shit to do today and tomorrow to drink:sohappy:
I'm taking care of the "tomorrow me"
Drinkin won't help a damn thing! Will only make me sick for DAYS and that ugly, spacey dumb feeling-no thanks!

Yes I had them too especially in the early days after stopping. There was a study done in london where they found that about 85 percent of people with less than 6 weeks sobriety had an average of 2.5 dreams per week I think.
I wouldnt pay them much attention since they're so common.

Hey Shoregirl
I'm nearly at 10 months sober and I still have these dreams as well. I actually quit smoking six years ago and still have smoking dreams from time to time. So I do think it's common.
I too wake up in a kerfuffle because I think I screwed up my sobriety date and have to start over. Even in my dreams while I am drinking I feel and know what I'm doing is wrong but do it anyway. Hide it. Chug it. Much like the way I felt in real life.
I feel relieved though when I wake up and realize it was all just a dream.
I think many of us that are sober go through the same thing.
Hang in there.
Bri.

I get these dreams pretty frequently even at 14 months...I always feel powerless in the dream...always so relieved to wake up.Its for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm then and DO NOT let yourself be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Gal 5:1

It happens to me all the time, and i have justvstarted si I'm still tapering down. Thise kind of dreams are relly unsettling. Fir me, whivhant stopped completely i think its my subconscious telling me not to quit. But i say bullshit to that. Minds nade uo, n I'm sure ill have more dreans in the future. As far as your dreams go, its probably the same thing,,,,,our subconscious tauntibg yiu ti come back . Ignore it, and when yiu wake up, just be still and tell yourself it's nothing but a dream. Means nothing. I have very vivid nightnares and when i wake uo from one i have to lie there and realize that its not real - that everythings ok. So uf you have another, take stock and kniw it was just a dream. You didn't have anything to drink , and try ti relax ubtil the residuals if the dream fade. Thats tge best i have ti offer, especiallysince im new, but i do havecexoerience with dreams. Its your brain spewing out crap. And we need to press the mute button if it keeps talking after we wake. Hope ur ok, and please keep strong. Panda

Yes, in the beginning. First 6 months or so. You won't miss those dreams when they finally stop.

I didn't have them for about the first 3 months sober. Now, closing in on the 6 month mark, I would guess I have two to three per month. I even had one a few nights ago where I ended up back in the local psych hospital (this has happened multiple times in real life), but somehow, in the dream, I managed to escape. It is unsettling when you wake up from one.First, a man takes a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes the man. --Chinese proverb
